Background To Data Privacy in India Thesis
Most countries have embraced data protection laws, making it appear like a crucial step
for all countries. Some countries such as Denmark, Norway, Canada, and France are some of the
countries whose data privacy policies have received the most commendations from other
countries. They shape the curve the other countries should follow in making relevant policies
that protect against personal data breaches. Ireland, one of the leading countries with the best
data privacy policies, passed a data protection act in 1988, and improved it in 2011, that ensures
that all organizations abide by the "Country's eight data protection principles."1
Most countries that support laws and consequences of personal and private data breaches
believe that people and entities have the right to a safe space where they can develop their
wishes. Ghosh and Shankar (2016) mentioned that everyone is entitled to protection against
unjust surveillance and interference from state authorities or any other actor. Ghosh and Shankar
(2016) argued that there is a significant global challenge in undermining the right to privacy,
which makes it even harder to follow up and implement. This challenge is because most people,
including relevant authorities supposed to enforce data privacy policies, are alienated by public
