THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

This chapter discusses the main problem of the study. This includes

the introduction, background of the study, theoretical framework, conceptual

framework, statement of the problem, significance of the study, scope and

limitations of the study, hypothesis, and the definition of terms.

Introduction

Nowadays, people often times look for high quality, eco-friendly, and

affordable products that are usually available in the market. People also look

for the products’ uniqueness or what makes it different from other existing

products.

Trashworthy is an innovated product which originated in Barangay

Pinagsanjan, Pagsanjan, Laguna. Trashworthy products are unique jewelries

made from trash which are plastic water bottles. It has variety of types to

choose from. People can choose from bracelets, necklace, and earrings. It

can also be bought in sets. The jewelries are inspired by nature and it also

has a lot of designs. Its packaging is also unique because it is a hand-made

packaging made up of wood and the name “Trashworthy” is engraved in it.

People will surely be satisfied because of its quality, uniqueness, and

affordable price. In addition, it is also eco-friendly because the materials used

are recycled.

Figure 1 shows the research paradigm of the study. Frame 1 shows

the independent variable which is the profile of the respondents in Brgy.

Pinagsanjan, Pagsanjan, Laguna in terms of age, gender, and health

condition. Frame 2 shows the dependent variable which is the level of

acceptability of Trashworthy as perceived by the respondents of Brgy.

Pinagsanjan, Pagsanjan, Laguna in terms of appearance, durability, and

price.

Statement of the Problem

The main focus of this study is to determine the acceptability of

Trashworthy. It is sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the profile of the respondents of Brgy. Pinagsanjan, Pagsanjan,

Laguna in terms of:

1.1. age;

1.2. gender; and

1.3. health condition?

2. What is the level of acceptability of Trashworthy as perceived by the

respondents of Brgy. Pinagsanjan, Pagsanjan, Laguna in terms of:

2.1. appearance;

2.2. durability; and

2.3. price?

3. Is there a significant difference between the profile of the respondents and

the level of acceptability of Trashworthy?

The result of the study will have a great benefit to the following:

This study aims to determine the acceptability of Trashworthy based

on its appearance, durability, and price as perceived by the people living in

Brgy. Pinagsanjan, Pagsanjan, Laguna.
