INTRODUCTION
The requirement for a vigorous security and surveillance in today’s situation has gone up altogether. The
industry as a whole is challenged to extend security and safety levels, without affecting their day-to-day
operations, or the guest’s experience. Recognizing this, Lemon Tree Hotels amplified the existing security
measures at their upscale hotels, Lemon Tree Premier, Delhi airport, New Delhi, by adopting NEC’s face
recognition solution (FRS). The aim of this case study is to identify the challenges faced by Lemon Tree

Indian security agencies.
A> The company went towards the NEC’s face recognition solution which is outlined to capture
quick and accurate facial pictures from LIVE CCTV camera over a standard IP network and
embrace matching the faces to the database at the backend in real time. The most prominent
advantage of the solution lies within the fact that the hotel staff need not disturb the guests in
order to confirm their identity since it captures facial images from a distance.
Describing the venture in detail, Project Head, NEC India said, “We were asked for a security
system that would let the hotel staff identify a visitor even before he entered the hotel. This
required us to engage deeply with the hotel security team to not just understand their exact
requirements, but also conduct numerous Proofs of Concepts (POC’s) to demonstrate the value
proposition of our face recognition solution.” The quality of NEC’s Face Recognition technology,
NeoFace, lies in its resilience of poor quality images. With high resistance for low quality,
profoundly compressed surveillance recordings and images, including web images, the
framework has the capability to enroll and generate match results for the control of both ‘black
list’ and ‘white list’ pictures utilizing computerized photos. The captured face is compared to all
facial formats within the database, irrespective of any endeavors by an individual to conceal
character through the utilization of caps, hats, glasses or altered facial hair. This makes a
difference whether the individual is blacklisted or an invited VIP client. On the basis of ‘white-
list’ management, it notifies the employees on the presence of a VIP guest. This enhances
customer service as every time the guest approached the reception, the employee is ready with
all details of the guest and can greet the guest by name.
