Paragraph 1

Production info: Princess Fearlesswas produced by and performed at Matthew’s

Playhouse, Sept. 23-Oct. 2, 2023. (I saw it on Oct. 2)
Show Synopsis: Princess Fearless is about a young girl named Lou who’s late to
school because she’s afraid to walk past her neighbor, Mrs. Wickerman’s house
because of rumors being spread about her that she feeds kids who walk by to her dog,
Pickles. But when her teacher says she can’t be late again or else she won’t be able to
go on the class field trip, she and her friends devise a plan to make sure that she’s on
time. The next day, as she’s walking past Mrs. Wickerman’s house, Pickles runs in
excitement and Lou throws a dog treat at him and runs away, finally making it to school
on time. When walking back home, she actually meets Mrs. Wickerman, who she’s
been so afraid of, and realizes that she’s not as scary as she thought and that ever
since her husband died, she’d had a hard time taking care of her house. So, Lou goes
to get the whole community together to help renovate her house. It’s a bit hard at first to
get the other kids to help, but she convinces them, and they all apologize to Mrs.
Wickerman for all the rumors and for not checking in on her sooner.

Paragraph 2
Acting Critique: There were a majority of child actors in the show, but they were very
good even though there were some moments where I couldn’t hear them. It felt like
some of the adult actors were over acting at times, but overall their performance was
good.
Technical Critique: Everything seemed on time, it all fit the vibe of the show, and it
was very good over all.
Directing/Choreography Critique: The directing/choreography was really good,
especially the part where they were learning how to jump rope.

Paragraph 3
Show Critique: The show had really good characters and a really good set design. The
playwright said that, because it was based on a book, they wanted the set to look like
you had “stepped into the book”. To do that, they painted the set almost exactly like the
settings in the book and made it 2D so it looked like a pop-up book. Overall, it was a
great show.
Recommendation: Unfortunately, the day I saw it was the last show they had. But if it
was still running I would definitely recommend the show to people. It’s a funny, light-
hearted show that the entire family could enjoy.
