1.)
“FOR A WHILE”
By Mathew Sutherland
(Reaction Paper)

In this article we learn that some of the phrases that we used can be different meaning in other
countries. Some of them are considering that some of phrases in countries should be literal so it
turns out like an idiom for example if in English they say “hit the sack” and its real meaning is
“to go to sleep” but in any some other countries particular in UK they consider its literal
meaning which is “you need to hit/punch the sack”. In this case, we will be able to confuse
when we encounter this kind of phrases when we don’t know their way on how to react on
some of those phrases. It always exist over the world because for me, we have different culture
that we adopted and we have unique way on how we express our thoughts. In order to avoid
these circumstances instead of using idiomatic like phrases, we just use some common phrases
to understand easily.

2.)
"The King's English and I"
by Carla Montemayor
So in this article, it shows us that some of the British words or phrases has also their own
meaning or how the expressed it. For us Filipinos, according to that article a Filipino are having
a hardtime in England because they have the words that she is not familiar with and she
interpret it as a literal meaning. For me, Countries had their own styles on how they deliver
their phrases and it’s their culture I guess. Some of their phrases are nearly becoming an idioms
but we are still not sure if it is. In England, when you wanted to speak you should be specific
cause the british might understand it as it is. People in England are too informal to speak or
when they have conversation they are too way informal and its different in English like for
example when an English word is “amazing” but in British word the say it as a “wonderful or
fantastic” so we have different perspective on how we expressed a phrase.
