What is the TOEFL iBT?

Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test.

• The TOEFL iBT test measures your ability to use and understand
English at the university level. And it evaluates how well you
combine your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to
perform academic tasks.

Who takes the TOEFL test?

• More than 27 million people from all over the world have taken the
TOEFL iBT test to demonstrate their English-language
proficiency. The average English skill level ranges between
Intermediate and Advanced.
o Students planning to study at a higher education institution
o English-language learning program admissions and exit
o Scholarship and certification candidates
o English-language learners who want to track their progress
o Students and workers applying for visas

• The exam is taken by 11th graders and above. It is recommended


that you take it in grade 11. All students graduating from an
American school in UAE MUST take the TOEFL iBT at least
once.

TOEFL iBT is mandatory to obtain the Equivalence of your High


School Diploma in the UAE. The minimum required for equivalence is
61. However, this score might be insufficient for admission into some
universities.

Setup of the test - There are four English language skills tested as follows:

Unlike the SAT, the TOEFL iBT doesn't allow any negative marking. Therefore, it is
recommended that if you are stuck on a question, do not skip it, but try your best and
choose an answer.

Needed for registration:

1. A valid credit card (American Express, Discovery, MasterCard,


VISA), VISA electron cards are not accepted.
2. Early registration closes seven days prior to the test date (not
including the day of the test).
3. Late registration closes three days prior to the test date (not
including the day of the test).
4. You will need to know the college codes ready for the colleges you
plan to send your scores to. (See below for some examples)
5. Registrations that are received after the early registration
deadline incur a late fee.

4. TEST LOCATION:
AMIDEAST – Knowledge Village, Block 2B - is the main test center, but
other test locations may be given upon registration.

5. WHAT TO BRING ON TEST DAY:


1. Your valid passport and ID. Photocopies NOT accepted.
2. Your registration number. Print out your registration confirmation
a few days before the test day – in case any recent updates are
made.
3. Personal items other than ID are not allowed in the testing room.
4. Don’t bring paper, pencil, headphones → You will be provided
with them by the supervisor available there.
