COORDINATE GEOMETRY

Tuesday, 15 November 2022 10:14 am

Things to know:
1. Equation of a line (or the general form of a linear equation)
y = mx + c
where "m" is the gradient and c is the y-intercept (the point where the line
intersects the y-axis)

ALTERNATIVELY

y - y1 = m(x -x1)
where (x1, y1) are the coordinates of any point on the line
m = gradient
c = y-intercept

2. Gradient, or slope:
or rise/run or (change in y)/(change in x)

3. If two perpendicular lines have gradients m1 and m2, then

m2 = -1/m1

4. Midpoint of the line segment through (x1, y1) and (x2, y2)
(]x1 + x2]/2 , [y1+ y2]/2)

5. Length of a line
