The primary purpose of research is interpreting, discovering, and developing methods and
systems for the advancement of human knowledge. We do research to gain knowledge and skills
needed to fast pace the decision making.
A research process includes the definition of the problem, approaches to the problem,
formulating a research design, field work, preparing and analyzing data and lastly preparing

Research methodology is a systematic way to solve a problem. It is a science of studying how
research is to be carried out. Essentially, the procedures by which researchers go about their
work of describing, explaining and predicting phenomena are called research methodology. It
is also defined as the study of methods by which knowledge is gained. Its aim is to give the work
plan of research.
There are two types of research: Basic and Applied
Basic research expands the limit of knowledge and is not directly involved in the solution to a
pragmatic problem whereas applied is conducted when a decision is to be made for a real-life
problem.
A good research follows the standards of the scientific method and includes the following
features:
 Purpose clearly defined
 Research process detailed
 Research design thoroughly planned
 Limitations frankly revealed
 High ethical standards applied
 Consistent style of citation
 High ethical standards applied
 Adequate analysis for decision-makers needs
 Findings presented unambiguously
 Conclusions justified
 Researcher’s experience reflected
 Bibliography
The above features make a good and quality research conducted on any problem though
scientific method.

I have found this subject really interesting. It helps to learn the research and its types which can
further help to know which type of research can be applied in what context. Not only this but we
are soon going to conduct a research on a topic considering it as our term project. This will help

to know how to conduct a research, collect data and its practical implication. I am thankful to my
teacher for teaching us such a wonderful subject with his incomparable experience.
