CHAPTER THREE

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1 Introduction

This chapter deals with the method applied to collected data and information to aid

decision making. The following sub-heading will be discussed:

 Research Design

 Population

 Sample and Sampling Technique

 Research Instrument

 Validity of the Instrument

 Administration of research instrument

 Procedure for Data Analysis

3.2 Research Design

This study adopted the descriptive survey design for data collection. To enable the

researcher identify and describe the nature of the phenomenon, descriptive survey design

will be employed in the conduct of this study. The choice of the design is to be based on

the opinion of Adega (2002), who highlights that descriptive survey design is the most

dominant technique used for educational research. A group of items or people is studied

by collecting data.

3.3 Research Population

The target population of this study comprised fifty (50) OTM Parttime Students Students

2019/2020 academic session in Kano State Polytechnic, Kano State.

3.4 Sample and Sampling Techniques

The sampling technique that was adopted for this study will be generalized (i.e all OTM

students were used in administering the questionnaire). Therefore, all the fifty (50)

students were from the department of Social and Management Sciences was selected

from School of Continuing Education, Kano State.

3.5 Research Instrument

A structured titled “PowerPoint Competencies Needed by OTM Final year Students for

modern job Opportunity in Kano State” shall be used as main instrument for data

collection. The questionnaire was used in order to afford the opportunity of gathering

facts and to get the views of the respondents. The instrument consists of two sections A

and B.

Section A contains the information on student’s personal data which include; sex, level

while section B contains data on factors that determine the influence of PowerPoint

presentation as an alternative. Twenty (20) structured items on four likert attitudinal

mode of Strongly Agree (SA) Agree (A) Disagree (D) Strongly Disagree (SD) was used.

The used respondents shall be required to tick each items in the appropriate column that

2
mostly represents their opinion based on their degree or level of agreement or

disagreement with the statement.

3.6 Validation of the Research Instrument

This refer to the level of accuracy and consistency in which an instrument measures.

Before the administration of the instrument of the research work, the research work was

given to the supervisor for further modification.

3.7 Method of Data Collection

The researcher personally administered the questionnaire to all the students. Also the

researcher stated the purpose of the study in order to get the true information from the

respondents, so that the respondents would feel free to give out the right information

without any bias.

3.8 Method of Data Analysis

The researcher was use to utilize an analytical data by making use of Arithmetic Mean to

make a decision the cut-off point will be 2.50. Mean score of items above 2.50 will be

accepted while mean score of items below 2.50 will be rejected. It was from these

findings that the interpretation made in chapter four where the analysis of the results was

discussed.
