Soup and a Sandwish
This special boy wanted
a special sandwich.
Not some peanut butter
and jiggly jelly-jam sandwich.
Not a little kid’s sandwich.
He wanted a
grown-up sandwich.
A gigantic, mountain-high
kind of sandwich.

He wanted more.
No soup for him.
He pushed it away.

a bowl of alphabet soup
He was so hungry that
He was very, very hungry.
a very special boy.
There once was
This special boy wanted
a special sandwich.

Not some peanut butter


and jiggly jelly-jam sandwich.
Not a little kid’s sandwich.

He wanted a

kind of sandwich.

No soup for him.
He pushed it away.

And so this boy closed his eyes
Cheese was next,
but not just one kind.

He wished for
cheddar, Swiss,
and Monterey jack.
He wished for
a big glob of
cheese spread.

He climbed it
for a ladder.
and sandwish
in the middle
He had to stop

and turkey.

meat—roast beef,
Then he wished for
