DLP #1: FESTIVAL DANCE

1. Festivals are relevant because?
Festivals are an expressive way to honor illustrious traditions, culture, and
heritage. They are intended to celebrate significant events and feelings in our lives
with the people we love. They are crucial in giving our social life structure and
keeping us connected to our roots and families. Festivals are not just for cultural or
religious reasons, but also other reasons as well. People can benefit from festivals
in a variety of ways, such as they can foster a sense of community and interaction
between individuals. With festivals, individuals from all walks of life gather to
celebrate life, culture, heritage, tradition, and what it means to be a member of that
particular community. Happiness is obscured by negativity and insecurity on the
chaotic and stressful planet we inhabit, so there has always been a need for
something that could bring positivity. Festivals were created as a result, giving us
the chance to let go of our worries and rejoice in the good things in life, even if
only for a short time.

2. Filipino culture and heritage are relived through festivals by?

Filipino culture and heritage are relived through festivals performances, food,
people, and memories. A visitor will never grow bored at a festival because there
are always exciting performances featuring ethnic dances and cool ones
showcasing a town's culture and tradition. A festival's signature activity is a street
dance that includes a drum and lyre, and it typically lasts for a week or two. The
performers, who are typically locals, proudly wear their costumes as they dance
and portray the history of their locale. These costumes can occasionally be made of
materials that are also found in their surroundings. What is a celebration with food,
exactly? The Philippines, a nation that enjoys food, is not last in the world when it
comes to setting the table with food, especially during holidays. For their guests'
indulgence, each home will prepare delectable food. If there is rice, adobo,
menudo, pansit, and puto on the table, you know you are in a Filipino home (and in
good company). The people of the Philippines are among the happiest in the world.
Finding a good friend among fellow Filipinos is always a joy because we are
renowned for our perseverance in trying circumstances. We will gladly introduce
you to our family as your Filipino friend and make you feel at home with us.
Throughout your stay, we will insist that you eat traditional Filipino fares like
balut, halo-halo, and adobo. We are naturally friendly, so you'll make friends
quickly. Even better, we'll give you a tour of the area and share some of our
hometown's history with you. Our hospitality is truly exceptional. Memories made
during the celebration of each Philippine festival are a way to further promote the
location, more so than selfies and photos posted on social media. Even after
technological advancements have been made available to everyone, every local
hopes that their community's culture and traditions will endure. A festival's success
depends heavily on the ties that bind families together, the sense of community it
fosters, and the innovative ideas of its participants. Every festival's grand finale
demonstrates how much we, Filipino, cherish our native country.

3. As a student, I can contribute to the promotion of my culture and heritage by?

Participating in school events and celebrations that highlight our culture is one way
that I, as a student, can help to promote and preserve our culture and tradition. I
think the more we engage, the more likely we are to promote awareness of our
culture and heritage. Examples include performing in a play or dance recital,
decorating for an event, and more. Another thing is that I will use my platform to
promote inclusivity. Whether it be through social media, the press, or just by being
an outspoken person, I will use it to promote inclusivity. I will speak out against
discrimination, raise awareness about the value of diversity, and speak up
respectfully when I see someone disrespecting my culture because it's crucial to
stand up for what we believe in. If someone makes fun of the way we eat or dress,
we should calmly explain why those things are significant to us. Lastly, the most
convenient way of promoting our culture and heritage is to respect other cultures
and heritage as well. By showing respect for other cultures, we can further protect
and promote our cultural heritage. This entails having an open mind and a desire to
learn about the traditions and customs of those who have different backgrounds
from your own. It also entails abstaining from making assumptions or declarations
about other cultures based on a lack of knowledge or ignorance. Keep in mind that
despite our varied backgrounds, we are all uniquely qualified to make a positive
impact on the world.

DLP #2: CONTEMPORARY AND

MODERN DANCE
A. DIRECTION: Give 1 example of modern contemporary dance and tell more
about it. (5 points)
Modern dance is a form that does not adhere to the rules of classical ballet and is
characterized by its emphasis on creative expressions that are drawn from the
individual's emotions. Contemporary dance is a subgenre of concert dance that
focuses on non-choreographed movements with compositional philosophy as their
main influence. Contemporary dance was developed later than modern dance and
is more concerned with developing new techniques and styles than the former.
Modern dance focuses more on the emotions of the dancers. While contemporary
dance has much more fluid and light elements that further emphasize the
connection between the body and the mind, the choreography of the various
modern dance styles is primarily focused on using gravity, likely as a result of the
greater influence of ballet and jazz. Both modern and contemporary dances
evolved from the practice of using rhythmic body movement as a means of social
expression and communication. They are both equally effective mediums that
portray emotions and unspoken speech using a variety of stylistic nuances and
techniques. The best example of modern contemporary dance is the Ballet, Ballet
is a graceful but physically demanding form of dance that gets its name from the
Italian verb "ballare," which means "to dance." It is theatrical because it is
presented to a crowd on a stage while using props, scenery, and lighting. It can
convey a thought, a concept, or an emotion. It can also tell a story. Ballet
performances have the potential to be enchanted, thrilling, thought-provoking, or
even unsettling.
We have 2 types of ballet, and these are Story Ballet and Plotless Ballet. Story
ballets tell a story. They contain narrative action, characters, a beginning, and an
end. The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty are famous story ballets from the 19th
century; classic stories and novels such as The Great Gatsby and The Three
Musketeers also have been transformed into ballets. Whereas, Plotless ballets have
no storyline. Instead, they use the movement of the body and theatrical elements to
interpret music, create an image or express or provoke emotion. We also have
styles in Ballet, and these are Classical Ballet, Neo-classical Ballet, Contemporary
Ballet, and Romantic Ballet. The traditional form of ballet known as "classical
ballet" features a narrative driven by a female ballerina and is typically
accompanied by a full orchestra. By emphasizing fluidity and outward leg rotation,
classical ballet movements frequently highlight the ballerina's weightlessness and
extension lines. The dancers'  elaborate costumes and the sets are built to support
the storyline of the performance. Neo-classical ballet, on the other hand, compared
to other types of ballet, is less structured and more abstract. Neoclassical ballet,
which does not make use of traditional ballet elements like costumes, sets, or
intricate stories, was created as a reaction to the prevalent, dramatic elements of
romantic ballet. A style of contemporary dance known as contemporary ballet
incorporates some classical ballet elements, such as acting and some pointe
techniques, but it is less rigid in its execution. In comparison to classical ballet,
contemporary ballet dance styles allow for a wider range of upper body movement
and can be performed barefoot. The nineteenth century marks the beginning of
romantic ballet. Romantic ballet, which was greatly influenced by the romantic era,
is where some of the many instantly recognizable elements of ballet, such as pointe
work and tutus, first appeared. The rise of lead female dancers during the romantic
ballet era marked a change from the scene's previous dominance by male dancers,
which emphasized emotion, lyricism, and drama in its narratives.

B. DIRECTION: Give 1 film reference where the modern contemporary dance

was shown and identify its kind. (10 points)
The film that has shown a modern contemporary dance is the Filipino movie
“Unexpectedly Yours” starring Julia Barreto, Joshua Garcia, Sharon Cuneta, and
Robin Padilla. There’s a scene in the movie wherein Sharon Cuneta and Robin
Padilla and the other cast did a Ballroom Dance. Ballroom dance refers to
traditional partnered dance forms that are done by a couple, often in the embrace of
a closed dance position ("ballroom dance position"). These include waltz, swing,
tango, salsa, and blues. Ballroom Dance can fall under contemporary jazz and
lyrical dance. Jazz that is currently in style is known as "contemporary jazz," and it
moves similarly to a modern dance of the day. The focus is on flexibility,
expression, extension, and turns. Ballet and jazz dancing techniques are combined
to create the dance form known as lyrical. It is done with lyric-driven music so that
the choreographer can draw inspiration for the choreography from the intense
feelings he or she experiences while listening to the song. This approach focuses
on the uniqueness of each person and the ability to express feelings like love, joy,
hurt, or anger. It does not focus on the dancer's dexterity in their movements. As
shown in the scene of Sharon and Robin doing a Ballroom Dance, they cover a
large amount of space on the room floor. They do graceful turns and walks and
their movements are fluid, continuous, and graceful, with the dancer flowing
seamlessly from one move to another with little or no stopping, holding finishing
steps as long as possible.
