Context: This is a teaching pack about Christmas, which could be used Pair Work Cards
as a standalone lesson at the end of the Christmas term, or as Dictionary
part of a topic on festivals. It is suitable for Y7 or Y8.

Starter
Using Slide 3 of the PowerPoint, students match up the key words of Christmas vocabulary, which they can self or peer mark. You
could then practise the vocabulary and refer to the additional vocabulary on the Christmas Word Mat. Alternatively, you could
use the Pair Work Cards to consolidate meaning or instead of the starter activity on the slide.

Main Activities
Choisissez la bonne réponse !
Students answer the multiple-choice questions on whiteboards or in books. This could also be done as a team activity. Once they have
found the correct answer, the slides provide extra information about each question. You might wish to use this activity to recap the
learning objectives.

Lisez le texte et complétez la feuille !

You could read through the text first from the PowerPoint, while students can follow it on their Christmas Activity Sheets.
Encourage them to pick out the facts from the text and write them in English on their sheets, as shown in the example. Encourage
them to look for cognates, to use a dictionary and to use their common sense. They could use the Christmas Word Mat as
support. If they finish they can continue to the word search on the activity sheet.

Remplissez la carte de sortie !

Give students some time to complete the word search and check the meaning in English of the French words they are looking for,
to reinforce the key vocabulary. Then ask them to fill in the Exit Cards and to share their feedback with the class. You could
also do this activity on sticky notes.

Plenary
Finish with a fun game of Christmas bingo, using the Christmas Bingo Cards. There is a list of the words in French and English
for the caller, so you could ask one of the pupils to help you.
