Question – Answer
Ans 2. The magic spell on the monkey’s paw was that three men can
have three separate wishes fulfilled from it.
Ans 3. Mr. White was keen to take the paw as the magic of the paw
had intrigued him. Also, Sergeant Morris told him that his three
wishes were already fulfilled. So, now it was of no use to him.
Ans 4. Meg and Meggins compensated the loss by paying 200 pounds
to Mr. White.
Ans 5. As the moral of the chapter goes, one should not be greedy
with what fate has given you, the fulfilment of first wish of Mr. White
tells us that. Mr. White wished for 200 pounds which came as
compensation by Megs and Meggins after the death of his son by
getting caught in machinery.
Ans 6. Mrs. White found the death of her son Herbert uneventful and
an outcome of the first wish. That is why she was curious to make
the second wish and see her dead son alive.
Ans 7. Mr. White feared making the second wish as after the death
of his son Herbert, the body was so badly injured that they were not
able to identify him. If the second wish comes true it would bring
back his son in such mutilated form that it would be more sorrowful
to have him back.

Section B
Ans 1. Sergeant Morris had seen how the first talisman wished for
death as his last wish which is the way he got the paw. Als, since he
had also got his three wishes he had a hint of what troubles what it
can bring in wisher’s life.
Ans 2. The author creates an atmosphere of mystery and suspense in
beginning when once Sergeant Morris ignores the question of Mr.
White about the monkey’s paw and later he tells how the first
talisman wished for death as his third wish. This made the readers
curious about the reason of why this happened.
Ans 3. The son does not believe in the magical powers because he
did not get the result of the first wish immediately. He was also not
considerate enough before making a wish so he suggested a wish to
check what Sergeant Morris said.
Ans 4. The third wish could be that the boy should not return again
and rest in peace wherever he has reached now.
