Comparison

1-Grandparents' responses vary and are similar to one another. Some people lived in large joint
families where several people shared a home, while others only lived with their immediate
family. The majority of the grandparents all resided in Mumbai, Maharashtra, in India. All of the
grandparents that we spoke with said that the media did not have a big influence on them when
they were teenagers. Newspapers like "Sakal Paper," "Times of India," "Lok Satta," and "The
Indian Express" were the only and best media options at the time. The cost of newspapers
during their adolescence was quite low.

2- Parents' responses varied and complemented one another. The parents we spoke with lived
alone with their immediate family. During their adolescent years, they saw government changes
and a few riots. Newspapers and television were both available. In those days, newspapers
were rather inexpensive. At their time, color movies were common. For them, the expansion of
English-language films, television programmes, and channels represented a change in the
media environment.

3- There are only a handful of similarities between the answers from the grandparents and
parents. Newspapers were still considered to have a big influence on them when they were
teenagers. “Times of India” and “Lok Satta” , were the only newspapers which were favoured by
both. However, there are a lot of differences between them, such as parents have had access to
colour movies whereas the grandparents didn’t. Media didn’t have much impact on
grandparents , while for parents it was heavily influential.

4- Yes , there has been a lot of development with regards to the sub questions. When parents
were teenagers they could witness and experience the change in the media landscape closely
as colour movies and digital media had become common. While experiencing these changes ,
the prices also hiked but were still affordable, whereas, grandparents during their teenage years
couldn’t witness and experience the changes which the parents did. The only development they
could witness was literally changes in newspapers , such as newspapers in english language
were becoming more common.
