BASIC FEATURES
CERBER R31 is a hopping coded, remote controlled operating alarm
system, with a modern design round a RISC microprocessor.

System multiple facilities are programmable.

The alarm system supervises 3 zones, numbered as Zone 1, Zone 2 and

Zone 3 on the front panel. Three red LEDs indicate the three zone state. A
yellow LED indicates the system state and a green LED indicates the power
voltage state.

LED indications are listed in the table bellow:

The remote control has 2 buttons named button 1 (the left

one) and button 2 (the right one). Button 1 is used for system
arming/disarming and also for cutting off the siren in alarm
cases. Button 2 is used only for an intentional triggering of
the alarm (panic button) under critical circumstances and it is
hardware connected to zone 3.

SYSTEM FUNCTIONING
SYSTEM ARMING
If the system is disarmed (yellow LED off), when pressing button1, it will
arm. One high frequency, short sound will be heard when releasing the
button (when pressed for less than one second). If pressed for longer than
one second, one high frequency, short sound or less intensity will be heard
one second after pressing when releasing the button. Real arming is per-
formed 5 seconds since button releasing by pressing the button again, in
order to bypass zone 2 and/or the pre-warning zone within this lapse of
time.

SYSTEM DISARMING
If the system is armed (yellow LED on) then, by pressing button 1 the
system will be disarmed. Three high frequency short sounds will be heard
by releasing the button (when pressing it for less than 1 second). If pressed
for longer than 1 second, three high frequency short sounds of less inten-
sity will be heard 1 second after pressing the button. When releasing the
button, the system will be disarmed (yellow LED off).

ZONE 2 AND/OR PRE-WARNING ZONE BYPASSING

After arming the system, within a 5 second interval after releasing button 1,
(yellow LED on, half powered) button 1can be pressed again in order to
bypass zone 2 and/or the pre-warning zone.
If the pre-warning zone is not used (see INSTALLATION DETAILS), when
pressing the button for a second time, a short, low frequency sound will be
heard indicating that zone 2 has bee bypassed. After this operation, the
system will be armed, zone 2 being bypassed.
If the pre-warning zone is used (see INSTALLATION DETAILS), when the
button is pressed for a second time, sequences of 1 second paused 1, 2 or
3 low frequency short sounds will be heard, cyclicly repeated if the button is
held pressed. If releasing the button after:
-1 beep, then zone 2 has been bypassed;
-2 beeps, then the pre-warning zone has been bypassed;
-3 beeps, then both zone 2 and the pre-warning zone have been by-
passed.
Bypassed beep intensity is the same for arming beeps. If when arming, the
button is pressed shortly (less than one second), then the beeps will be loud
(tunable volume), and if it is pressedafor a longer time (more than 1 sec-
ond), then the beeps will be weak (see below).

TUNNING SOUND INTENSITY FOR ARMING/DISARMING

For arming/disarming by a short button pressing (less than one second), the
sound volume can be tuned with the following intensities: WEAK, MEDIUM-
WEAK, MEDIUM-LOUD, LOUD.
When powering the system, the default volume is MEDIUM -LOUD.
When the system is disarmed by simultaneously pressing both buttons, the
volume tuning is achieved. The arming sound will be heard, passing through
the four intensity levels. By simultaneously releasing both buttons, the
intensity of the last heard sound will be established . For the long button
pressing (more than 1 second) the volume is tuned for WEAK.

“CHIME” ENABLING/DISABLING
Immediately after system installation, “chime” function is not active. To
activate the function one should proceed as follows:
With the system is disarmed, open zone 1 (on the front door, there is usually
a magnetic contact; door opening will open zone 1) and press button 1.
Regardless how long the button is held pressed, when releasing it, a bing-
bang sound will be heard. That indicates that “chime” function has been
enabled if it was disabled or has been disabled if it was enabled. It is easy to
check the enabling of “chime” function by opening zone 1 (front door). //the
bing-bang will sound for each door opening. The function is useful for
notifying when entering zone 1 (only when the system is disarmed).

ALARM TIMINGS
• Zone 1 and 2: about 3 minutes
• Zone 3: about 15 minutes with a 0.5s break every 4s.
• Pre-warning: a 0.5s sound on piezoelectric siren only

ALARM STOPPING
In alarm cases the siren will be stopped by pressing button 1 (yellow is LED
blinking). 8 loud beeps will be heard and the system will totally disarm. The
red LED will stay lit (or with short pulses; see red LED indications) on zones
where an alarm has occured. By pressing the button again, LED indication
regarding the alarm state will be erased.

INSTALLATION DETAILS
• The system is powered by 220V through the mains transformer connected
to the secondary coil on 14Vac TRAFO connectors.

• The 4Ah battery will be connected to special wires. The red wire will be
connected on “+” of the battery and the black one on “-“. The reverse
connection of the battery will burn the 3.15A F1 fuse. It is strongly recom-
mended to replace the fuse only with the same current value, otherwise
system functioning could become unpredictable.

• +12V GND connectors supply 12V voltage for sensor powering and
possibly for a siren or notifying unit. The current supplied for +12V connec-
tor cannot exceed 1A (it is not recommended to use 30W sirens).

• TRIG connector is used for a phone dialer triggering or for triggering an

external notifying unit. Under alarm circumstances TRIG output supplies a
max. 0.5V voltage. Under normal circumstances the voltage is +12V by
means of a 47kW resistance.

• SIR connector is necessary for the direct command of a siren, the positive
terminal of the siren being connected to +12V AUX and the negative
terminal to SIR. In alarm states the SIR output supplies a voltage of max.
1,5V@1A as an “open collector” output from a medium power transistor.

• The LED connector is used for connecting an external state LED (the
cathode is connected to the ground).

• A shock-sensor or a pre-warning microwave sensor can be connected to

the P.A. connector. Unlike the other zones of the system, this input must
be grounded in order to trigger pre-warning. If the zone is not used, , it
must be negative triggered (as in the figure below) before powering the
system. Thus zone bypassing mode is simplified (see Zone 2 and/or pre-
waring zone bypassing).

• Connectors Z1, Z2, Z3 are zones which function with NO contacts. Zone 1
is a Perimeter zone, zone 2 is an Internal one, and zone 3 is a 24h zone. If
sensors are not mounted on zone 3, then tamper contact will be mounted
onto Z3 and GND connectors. If the tamper is not used either, then a strap
should be made between Z3 and GND.

• The wires on PIEZO siren of the system are connected to PIEZO connec-
tors. No short-circuit is recommended between these 2 connectors unless
driver transformer gets burnt.

REMOTE CONTROL LEARNING PROCEDURE

To enter the learning mode, disarm the system (The YELLOW status LED
must be off).
To erase all the remote controls, you have to hold the push-button more
than 10 seconds. The PCB LED alights when the button is pressed and will
turn off when all the remote controls have been erased. In this moment you
may depress the push-button.
To learn the remote controls, you have to press the push-button less than
10 seconds. The LED will turn on for that time. The moment you depress the
button, the LED turns off. For the next 30 seconds the system will learn any
remote which (black) button 1 is pressed. The LED will confirm learning by
turning on as along as you hold the remote button pressed. If the remote
control has already been learned, the LED won’t confirm again. After 30
seconds, the system automatically exits the learning mode. You can enter this
mode again by pressing the PCB push-button for a short time (less than 10s).
The system is able to learn up to 15 remote controls.
