NPTEL Guidelines
NPTEL Guidelines
1. Students must take prior approval of DAPC to register for NPTEL courses. DAPC, before
recommending, shall check content of the NPTEL course for relevancy/ importance/
applicability to the student etc.
2. After the completion of the course, the student shall be required to submit an application to
the department for credit transfer of NPTEL against the course along with the photocopy of
completion certificate showing marks obtained and prior approval of course registration.
3. The DAPC will convert the marks obtained to grade equivalent at IIT Patna using the
following guidelines.
4. If the marks obtained is in fraction, it will be rounded off to next higher number.
5. In case grade is awarded in NPTEL course, the same shall be directly mapped to the
grading system at IIT Patna.
6. The DAPC will send the recommendation to IAPC for credit transfer after completion.
7. Core courses shall not be considered for NPTEL substitution or credit transfer. Only
electives can be substituted.
8. Credit from NPTEL courses can be directly transferred without any moderation at IIT
Patna.
9. UG students can acquire maximum 8 credits through NPTEL. Student can opt for multiple
courses, the sum total of whose credit should be equal to 8.
10. PG students (including M.Sc.) can acquire maximum 4 credits through NPTEL. Student
can opt for multiple courses, the sum total of whose credit should be equal to 4.
11. Student may opt for those NPTEL courses only, the schedule of which do not coincide
with existing Time Table of IIT Patna.
12. DAPC Credit transfer will be allowed only in those NPTEL courses which have been
earmarked by DAPC for a particular student.
13. Student opting for NPTEL has to fill and obtain DAPC approval in the prescribed form
(Annexure 1).
