Introduction
Local Area Network or LAN (Local Area Network) is a type of network that
serves a local area and supplies networking capability to a group of computers near
each other. A local area network can support as little as two or three users in the
home office or several hundred users in the central office of a company.
Homeowners and IT managers set up LANs such that network nodes can share
services such as printers or network storage.
This South Gonder zone police office is about designing a topology of a network
that is a LAN (Local Area Network) for police office in which various computers
of different office are set up so that they can interact and communicate with each
other by interchanging data. To design a networking scenario for a police office
which connect various office to each other’s, it puts forward communication
among different offices. SGZPO is used to design a systematic and well-planned
topology, satisfying all the necessities of the offices (i.e. client). It come up with a
network with good performance.

1.0 Objective
In this project a LAN system will be designed for a medium-sized company.
Through this networking system, the company can effectively reduce daily running
cost, the company internal works can be more systematic and well organized, and
the communication of the employees in the company can become more efficiently.
The network can be used to share files, share company program.
Employees can communicate with one another through some network
communication program. Besides, some expensive hardware such as color printer
can be shared by a lot of employees. Finally, employees can use the network to
search information.

1.1 Devices and Technologies

This chapter gives an overview of the devices and configurations selected for the
design.

1.2 Devices
the devices that transmit and/or receive data through a network segment are
network devices. There are various devices used in the implementation of network
design in accordance to the requirements.

1.3Switch
switch is used to connect several nodes of a network within multiple segments
This device works on the 2nd Layer of the OSI Model. Also, this device transmit
data to the recipients except for broadcast traffic to devices with unknown ports.
This device eliminates the remaining segments of a network from unintended
procession of data and is imperative to network security and performance

1.4 Router
routers are interconnection network devices that send and receive packets between
networks. This type of network device is based on Layer 3 IP addresses and
selects the best path for data transmission in a network. This device, while on the
3rd Layer of the OSI Model, makes network address based decisions.

2.0 Design and configuration
2.1 FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• The three offices , namely, head office, investigation and traffic and security
should have separate LAN with individual applications. However, these office
must share data.
• the office should be able to run a LAN system with VoIP running data.
• The organization should be able to run data over VLAN.
• The design should support email and communication.
The design should support web access and also support file transfers
• The design should also support a database server

3.1 Network design Topology
Network topology is the configuration of the different elements (links, nodes, etc.)
of the communication network. This is a topological structure of a network that can
be presented either physically or logically.

3.1.1 Physical
Physical topology shows the configuration of various network components. It
represents the spatial configuration of the equipment and cables in the context of a
network. It concerns the basics of a network that lacks minute information such as
data transmission and system sort. The pattern of layout of nodes (computers) and
network cables depends on the ease of installation and network setup. It affects the
cost and capability of the bandwidth depending on the system solution. This
considers the location of nodes and the distance between them. Devices may be
arranging to form a ring (Ring topology) or a linearly connected to a line called
Bus topology.

3.1.2 Logical
A logical topology is a networking term that specifies the connection process
configuration for all nodes within the network. It transfers data via Physical
topology. It is independent of the spatial topology and the configuration of nodes.
It involves the intricate specifics of the network, such as the type of devices chosen
(switches, routers) and their efficiency, which influence the pace and speed of
transmission of data packets. Logical topology guarantees maximal flow control
that can be controlled within the network. However, the mesh network topology is
implemented, which enables redundancy across the network

Testing
• We should first use cable tester to test each connection cable and ensure that
every cable is connectable and no broken inside.
• Check if the servers are working properly
• Check if each client can login the network
• Check if each client can connect to the servers and use the services provided by
the server
• Check if the network speed is acceptable
• Check if the backup server can successfully backup the data and restore the data

Conclusion
south Gonder Zone police office network has been designed and every parts of
the network have been carefully analyzed. After creating this network, I am sure
the run cost of the organization can be reduced since the computer resources can
be better used and managed. Also, communication between employees can be
more efficiently.
