ACTION RESEARCH PROPOSAL

Title:

MISSION POSSIBLE PROJECT RICH

( READING INITIATIVES AMID COVID 19 HAVOC )

I. PROPONENT: MARY JEAN M. LEONEN

II. PROPOSED DATE: November 16, 2021

III. PROPOSED VENUE: Lucapon South, Sta. Cruz, Zambales

IV: RATIONALE:

Reading is the cornerstone of academic success. Without the ability to

read well, opportunities for personal fulfilment and job success inevitably will be lost.
Despite its importance, reading became one of the most challenging areas in the
education system because of the pandemic.

It is no secret that COVID-19 has turned millions of lives upside down.

Educational institutions in our country have temporarily shut their doors, with
closures affecting all the students. As more and more children are being forced to stay
home from school, the risk of students becoming disengaged from or deprived entirely
of their education is higher than ever. With this threat, teachers of Lucapon South ES
found the lockdown to be a great opportunity to engage the learners as well as the
parents in developing and enhancing reading abilities through different reading
initiatives, programs, and interventions.

It is our response to DepEd memorandum no. 173, s. 2019 “HAMON:

BAWAT BATA BUMABASA” (3BS INITIATIVES), a program that goals to intensify the
advocacies for reading to make every learner a reader at their grade level and
capacitate teachers to become effective reading instructors.

We, at Lucapon South Elementary School, identified the learners who are

Independent, Instructional and Frustration from Phil-IRI reading assessment conducted

last school year 2019-2020. With those data, we came up with different reading
strategies and programs to ensure that No Child is Left Behind.

V. OBJECTIVE:
This action research aims to
a. Develop desirable reading habits and skills through greater access to reading
materials.
b. Cultivating in the students the love for reading, and developing their oral and
silent reading skills;
c. Acquinting the students with reading comprehension strategies and skills that
facilitate their understanding;

VII. Target participants

All pupils as well as the parents of Lucapon South Elementary School will
benefit this project. The learners are free to come and enjoy reading with the
assistance of designated parent or teacher.
