C. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is built on the first semester course, BGEC 109, and it focuses on building students’
knowledge and proficiency in French Language registers for social, professional and business use
among others. The scope includes registers for Human Relations, Commerce, Banking and Finance,
Social Life, Travel and Hospitality Industry (Food and Beverages, Restaurants, etc.), Marketing,
telephone communication as well. This will enable students to be equipped with appropriate basic
communication skills in order to interact formally and informally with French speakers when
conducting business in French within Ghana or in a French speaking country. Students are taught via
lectures and multi-media tools. Students will be given the opportunity to practice orally various
communicative scenes in groups. By the end this course, it is expected that students will build on their
proficiency in French for business purposes and be adequately prepared to communicate satisfactorily
in French.
D. COURSE OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the course are to:
1. Introduce students to basic vocabulary, common words and phrases to form simple, correct and
logical sentences.
2. Expose students to every day French expressions under formal and informal situations.
3. Develop students’ ability to communicate in basic French.
4. Build students basic writing skills in French.
5. Develop student reading comprehension skills.
