Name- Ritesh Parekh

AS

Age- 44

Mr. Ritesh lived with 6 people in the same house. His parents, his brother, his grandparents and
himself. The 1992 Bombay riots were one of the things that had happened when he was a
teenager. Newspapers, magazines, radios, and just a few television channels called
"Doordarshan National'' and "Doordarshan Metro" were the main forms of media available to
M

him as a teenager. Color was used in those days' movies. During his teenage years, he made
calls on wired telephones or landlines. Since they were so inexpensive, radios were the most
widely used form of media in those days. He was a teenager when "Prasad Bharti," "The AM
Channel," and "107.1FM'' were some of the most well-known radio stations. Even though they
were quite pricey, magazines were also very common. The development in the media landscape
for him was the increase in foreign language channels on the television.

Mr Ranjan Bothra lived with around 40 people, some old and some middle aged in the same
house. He lived in his native place, which is Bikaner and is situated in Rajasthan. There was no
media as such while he grew up, however he did have a device called a pocket transistor which
AS

he used to listen to music. In simple words, a pocket transistor is a compact radio device used
for listening to radio channels. Mr Ranjan Bothra answered all his questions with utmost honesty
and enthusiasm. He gave us a clear picture of the reality and usage of media during his time as
a teenager. We could easily sum up from his interaction with us and our team that the usage of
media was not very prominent along his time as a teenager; however a common device that
M

they did use was a transistor. People also lived in an extremely loved environment in the form of
a joint family at his time.
