Although science and technology will continue to advance and improve people's lives,
the most significant improvements in the quality of people's lives have already taken
place.

In my opinion, although the scientific advances will continue to improve, still I'm
convinced that the most important improvement in people's life quality has taken place.

Firstly, it is true that there is  a wide range of technological advances  coming up in

recent times. A good example is social media, on which people can  update their daily
status  and post pictures  to share their experiences  or just random thoughts. Connected
to the internet, users can have access to  the newest information regarding anybody, be
they celebrities or relatives. This would be unimaginable a few decades ago without  the
advent of  the mobile internet  and smartphone applications . Another typical example
can be algorithms. Most social media platforms, ranging from Tiktok to Bilibili,  are all
equipped with  advanced algorithms. These algorithms are designed to  serve users
content  based on their interest and a combination of factors. As a result, users
can thoroughly enjoy a stream of videos  tailored to their interests , making it easy to
find content and creators they love. All of these examples highlight how important
technological advances can be to the general public.

However, from my perspective, despite these advances mentioned above, the most
important improvement in shaping people's life  has already taken place. In daily life,
people’s needs may vary from person to person , but one of the most commonly shared
needs is food, which is an effective indicator of  a nation’s wellbeing. Fortunately, as
agricultural scientists and researchers constantly make efforts, it turns out that the
scientific research in terms of crop yield  proves to be fruitful  and this development
does improve overall life quality to a large extent. Specifically, hybrid rice,  the
brainchild of  generations of scientists, is one of  the major achievements of modern
agricultural science . The methods of breeding hybrid rice were widely adopted
and contributed significantly to food security  in China, addressing the problem of low
crop yield. Thanks to this development, the majority of people across China can no
longer suffer from starvation . There is nothing more meaningful than fulfilling one's
needs for staple foods, given that rice is a staple crop for more than half of the world's
population.

In conclusion, in spite of ongoing scientific progress, the most important improvement

in improving people's living quality has taken place.
