Philosophy of Education

During my time studying Elementary Education, my philosophy of education has

evolved. Starting out, I would generally state my philosophy as creating a positive learning

environment for my students where they can be successful in their way. This statement has

become the foundation of my teaching philosophy now. After receiving more education, I was

able to connect my personal feelings for becoming a teacher based on theory. I found my

philosophy is based on balancing social-emotional learning with academics. I related my beliefs

and goals as a teacher to major philosophies. Though the most important source of knowledge

for my philosophy is Scripture. My faith guides me to respect all students, see their value, have

patience, show grace, work hard, be a model of good character for students, and create a

peaceful, positive environment. Some words that guide me are, “God blesses those who work for

peace, for they will be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5:9). As a teacher, I work for

peace. I know that providing a peaceful environment greatly impacts students’ daily lives.

My philosophy has evolved the most by putting theory into practice. During student

teaching, I have learned how to implement my philosophy. I believe in differentiating instruction

for students so that everyone has opportunities to succeed. I know from my experiences in the

classroom that there is unfortunately not enough time to meet every student’s needs. Despite this,

I will continue to focus my teaching on the chances of success for each student by providing a

positive classroom environment, putting forth my best effort, caring for students, and balancing

social, emotional, and academic learning.
