Quiz #1
Note: (Your answers should not only be abbreviation but with full name.)

1. Computer is an advanced electronic device that takes raw data as input from the user and processes it
under the control of set of instructions (called program), gives the result (output), and saves it for the
future use.
2. Advantages of computers in today’s arena.
Ans. Advantages-Computers have made human existence easier because of their great speed, accuracy,
and storage, which allows humans to save and retrieve information quickly. We can call a computer a
versatile machine since it can do a variety of tasks.
3. Disadvantages of computers in today’s arena.
Ans. Disadvantages- While a computer can help you be more productive, it can also squander a lot of
your time. For example, you might be attempting to learn more about computers and come across a
fascinating link about preparing spaghetti, which you read for a few minutes. After that, you read about the
best pot to use, which leads to information about healthy eating. You realize two hours later that you never
accomplished your original aim.
4. How the computer works? Ans. Input, storage space, processing, and output are all combined in a
computer system. When we type something on a keyboard, for example, we are providing input to
the computer. Storage Space: This is the location where our data is saved. It is known as Computer
Memory, and it is used to store data.
5. What are the various application of computer? Ans. Business, Banking, Insurance, Education,
Marketing, Health care, Engineeering Design, Military, Communication, Government
6. Five Types of Computers? Ans. Supercomputer, Mainframe Computer, Mini computer, Workstation,
Personal Computer
7. Five basic operations for converting raw input data into information useful to their users. Ans.
Inputting, Storing, Processing, Outputting, Controlling
8. What are the three components of CPU itself? Ans. The control unit , the immediate access store and
the arithmetic and logic unit .
9. What are the three primarily types of memory?Ans. working memory, short-term memory, and long-
term memory.
10. What are the four various types of ROM? Ans. Mask Read Only Memory, Programmable Read-Only
Memory, Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory, Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only
Memory
11. Motherboard can be considered as backbone of a computer.
12. Give at least five different kinds of Ports of Computer? Ans. Serial Port, Universal Serial Bus(USB)Port,
Video Graphic Array(VGA)Port, Modern Port and Ethernet Port
13. Four categories of hardware. Ans. Input devices, Storage devices, Processing devices, Output devices
14. What is hardware? Ans. The physical components of a computer are referred to as hardware. This is
sometimes referred to as computer machinery or computer equipment. The keyboard, monitor,
mouse, and central processing unit are all examples of hardware in a computer.
15. What is Software? Ans. Software is a set of instructions, data or programs used to operate computers
and execute specific tasks.
16. Two types of software. Hardware and Software
17. Give at least 5 computer hardware. Ans: Motherboard, Central Processing Unit(CPU), graphics
Processing Unit (GPU), Random Access Memory (Ram), Storage
18. Give at least 5 computer software. Ans. Operating System (OS) The operating system is a type of
system software kernel that sits between computer hardware and end user, Device Drivers,
Firmware, Programming Language Translators, Utilities
19. USB – Universal Serial Bus
20. VGA – Video Graphic Array
21. CPU – Central Processing Unit
22. MROM – Mask Read Only Memory
23. PROM – Programmable Read-Only Memory
24. EPROM – Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory
25. EEPROM – Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory
26. DVI – Digital Visual Interface
27. MoBo – Motherboard
28. HDD – Hard Disk Drives
29. SSD – Solid-State Drive
30. LCD (Monitor) – Liquid Crystal Display
31. CRT (Monitor) – Cathode-Ray Tube
