Analytical Paragraph Outline/Planner

Topic sentence: Essay title, author, and your argument (what you are proving to be true about the
essay)

Lead-in to supporting evidence/quotation:

Supporting quotation with correct MLA citation and punctuation:

Explanation of the quotation and how it defends your topic sentence:

Concluding sentence: echo the topic sentence, but re-word. Re-state essay title and author.
Reminders:

- Write in the present verb tense


- Avoid the “I” voice or any other personal pronouns
- Don’t forget to lead in to your quotations. Do not begin a sentence with a quotation.
- Keep the topic sentence short, concise, and specific to what you will proving to be true in your
paragraph
- Avoid re-telling/plot summary. Stick to ANALYSIS.
