RECYCLING PLASTIC BOTTLES FOR A GREEN ECONOMY IN TAMPAKAN

NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Prepared by
CHRISTOPHER R. GONZAGA

NOVEMBER 08, 2022

Introduction

Garbage had become a community problem in many communities. Over the last
few years there has been an increase in the use of plastic bottles, resulting in a
substantial rise in plastic waste in the Tampakan National High School.

As DILG mission: The Department shall promote peace and order, ensure public
safety, strengthen capability of local government units through active people
participation and a professionalized set of civil servants. The agency decided to
implement a recycling campaign in this town. There were trash segregations and
awareness campaign, indeed, recycling is not just a matter of recovering recyclable
materials; it’s a total economic system. One has to create a market for recycled
products and consumers should learn to buy recycled products.

Making or having the community in Tampakan National High School participate

in the recycling of plastic bottles to make them be aware that these waste materials can
be made into various products that would ensure profit for everyone. One could say that
recycling is wealth, there is a profitable business in recycling.

I. Objectives

The implementation of the project has the following goals and objectives:

 To maintain the cleanliness of the school.

 To teach people how to make everything valuable.
 To help them earn money by selling the newly made products.
 To reduce the number of waste plastic bottles.
 To save our surroundings from greenhouse gases.
 To reduce high rates of plastic pollution.
 Creating a direct value in waste materials specifically plastic bottles so as
to attract scavengers to collect these plastic wastes from the ground for
recycling.
 To attract itinerant buyers to start moving from house to house to buy
plastic bottles

II. Beneficiaries
 Students
 Teachers
 Faculty Members
 Parent of the students

Description

Plastic goods are useful because they are durable, but this becomes a disadvantage
when items are discarded. The natural processes that degrade many paper, cardboard
and wood products in a few months don’t affect plastic materials as much. In landfills,
plastics accumulate, creating a volume of refuse that never seems to go away. In
nature, plastic bits and pieces become unsightly nuisances and hazards to animals.
Diverting discarded plastics from the refuse stream and turning them into new goods
keeps these persistent materials out of landfills and the natural environment.

While some plastics can be recycled once or twice, others are hard to recycle for
technical and economic reasons. For example, recyclers typically do not accept
Styrofoam, as its lightweight foam structure makes it cumbersome to deal with.
Polystyrene products, such as plastic forks and compact disc cases, however, are
recyclable. Other common recyclable plastic goods include vinyl packaging, medicine
bottles made of polypropylene, low-density polyethylene disposable drink cups and
high-density polyethylene milk bottles. Everyday examples of goods made with recycled
plastics include shampoo bottles, traffic cones, floor tiles and oil funnels.

The use of recycled plastics in products requires creative thinking on the part of
designers, technicians and manufacturers. Innovations include construction decking
made from recycled plastic, which never rots; types of sports clothing; and vehicle
interiors. Artists have turned to recycled plastics for thought-provoking art projects.
Although the number of plastics they use is small compared to commercial uses, they
help raise environmental awareness and inspire creative thinking.
III. Project Description
The implementation of this project is aimed to not just help students to
have an extra income and creative ideas but also to help make the
surroundings clean. A seminar will be conducted to let students be
encouraged to produce a new product form a recycled plastic bottles and let
them know what benefits they can get in it. To prevent and to lessen the
improper waste disposal, to give people enough knowledge and ideas of what
a simple plastic bottle can do and also to reduce greenhouse gases. Start
collecting plastic bottles anywhere in the area of the community which may
use to make new products that can be a start of a small business by means of
selling it in an affordable price. With these people that will be engage in this
program can maintain the environmental sustainability and save this waste
from being toxic pollutants or irritants from the air. People don’t just save the
community but also earn money.

IV. Methodology And Timeline

October 24 Present the aforementioned project

for implementation at our school.
October 25 Gathering ideas to the student inside
the campus.
