Sheet metal operations

1. What is sheet metal operation

Sheet metal is metal formed into thin, flat
pieces, usually by an industrial process. Sheet
metal is one of the fundamental forms used in
metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into
a variety of shapes
There are many different metals that can
be made into sheet metal, such as
aluminium, brass, copper, steel, tin, nic
kel and titanium. For decorative uses,
some important sheet metals include
silver, gold, and platinum (platinum sheet
metal is also utilized as a catalyst

1.1 Shearing operations

The Shearing operation
is a cut in a straight line across a strip,
sheet, or bar. It leaves a lean edge on the
piece of metal that is sheared or cut. In
this operation, a sheet metal workpiece is
placed or kept between two dies from one
end. And, the punch is hit at the other end

of the sheet, producing a shearing effect.
This type of sheet metal operation has three
basic stages:

• Plastic deformation occurs when a

metal is sandwiched between the upper
and lower blades of shear when
pressure is applied. It penetrates the
metal for around 5 to 40% of its
thickness.

• A fracture occurs at the spot where the

most stress is concentrated.

• Shear – The metal is sheared once

small fractures are discovered.

2.Assembly
The most basic assembly
machine design relies on dial indexing,
where a rotating disc distributes
products or materials around a series of
stations. In-line assembly machinery
features a belt-driven system to move
materials along an assembly line, while
platform machines are often used for
large-scale assembly or production.
Continuous motion machines are the
most complex, but also offer the highest
degree of customization as well as the
most efficient method of mass
production.

2.1 Rotovetar Assembly

A rotoveter is a
farming equipment used for preparing soil
for planting. It is either driven by a
gasoline engine or used as an attachment
with a tractor to break up top soil. Spinning
blades are attached to either the rear or
front of a rotoveter.

THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF ROTOVETAR

1. Chani rotovetar
2. Gear rotovetar

Usage
A rotavator is a large piece of gardening
equipment that is used to break up,
churn, and aerate the soil before sowing
seeds and bulbs in gardens. Rotavators
have a series of spinning blades that
break through the soil. This increases
drainage, levels the land, and prepares
it for the planting of vegetable plants
and crops.

Duel Rotovetar is generally use for the

making of gapes in soil for putting
the sugarcane stick in the khet and
like these types of making gapes is
also use in grapes khet

3. Welding
Welding is a fabrication process where
by two or more parts are fused
together by means of heat, pressure or
both forming a join as the parts cool.
Welding is usually used on metals and
thermoplastics but can also be used
on wood. The completed welded joint
may be referred to as a weldment.

3.1 Mig welding
MIG welding is an arc
welding process in which a continuous
solid wire electrode is fed through a
welding gun and into the weld pool,
joining the two base materials
together. A shielding gas is also sent
through the welding gun and protects
the weld pool from contamination. In
fact, MIG stands for metal inert gas.
The technical name for it is gas
metal arc welding (or GMAW), and the
slang name for it is wire welding

Mig welding is requite 250W heat for

welding and in the mig welding 100%
of co2 is use and in the mig welding
gun 0.8 nojal is use.

Auto Matic welding machine

Auto Matic welding machine is an

arc welding technique that involves
continuously feeding a solid wire
electrode through the welding gun to
join two pieces of metal together. For
assembly applications that require a
higher degree of precision and
accuracy, industry professionals may

employ the use of automated welding
equipment

Nojal of 1.2MM

Page 21
The faster processing speeds offered by
the MIG welding process stem from
many factors, including easier setup
and operation, greater deposition rates,
and smaller need for additional
finishing operations. and in auto Matic
welding machine 400W heat is requite
and 1.2 nojal

Applications of MIG Welding

• Automobile assembly and

maintenance
• Construction
• General manufacturing
• Pipe welding and joining
• Railroad track laying
• Shipbuilding
• Underwater structure construction

3.2 Arc welding
Arc welding is a type of welding
process using an electric arc to
create heat to melt and join metals.
A power supply creates an electric
arc between a consumable or non-
consumable electrode and the base
material using either direct (DC) or
alternating (AC) currents.

How Does it Work?

Arc welding is a fusion welding process

used to join metals. An electric arc from
an AC or DC power supply creates an
intense heat of around

join between two work pieces

Types of Electric Arc Welding

The most common application of this
type of Welding process is in the
Automotive, Aerospace, Oil and Gas,
Power, and Construction based
Industries.

4. Lathe machine
A lathe is a machining tool that is
used primarily for shaping metal or

wood. It works by rotating the
workpiece around a stationary cutting
tool. The main use is to remove
unwanted parts of the material, leaving
behind a nicely shaped workpiece.

multistep process requiring different
tools for each step

Metal Spinning: A process where metal

spins on a spindle, while the operator
works it with tools; an automated
process

Acrylic Spinning: Involves spinning

acrylic on a spindle to form items from
acrylic; most often used in the making
of the top pieces for trophies

Thermal Spraying: Combines the

rotating spindle with the painting
process; the paint sticks to the stock
via processes involving heating the
paint materials

Pottery: By using a potter’s wheel,

artisans can make a variety of pottery
pieces; though formed mainly by hand,
craftsperson also use tools
