Experiment Report No: ____6____ Section: CEIT-02-101P

Experiment Title: Ethanol Combustion Experiment Date & Time: November 17, 2021
Name: Estañol, Jerald Date Performed: November 17, 2021
Course: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Date Submitted: November 17, 2021

OBJECTIVE:
● To show the combustion of ethanol that is highly flammable
● To show what will happen after the combustion
● To know if the combustion can produce something

MATERIALS/ CHEMICALS:

● Ethanol ● Lab PPE’s

● Large bottle container ● Beaker
● Taper
● Lighter

OBSERVATIONS & RESULTS:

First, she poured the ethanol into the large bottle container, then she shaked the
container to spread the ethanol all over the inside of the container and to make the ethanol
vapor. At arm’s length, she lit the taper and vapor inside the bottle, after she lit the ethanol
inside the bottle, the fire spread very fast and created a noise because of a small hole with
respect to the size of the bottle. After the combustion experiment, it creates water (a little bit
contaminated). I think aside from making the ethanol vapor by shaking it, I think it's because
it is easier to easily burn or heat the ethanol by spreading it for the ethanol to become a
thinner layer.

CONCLUSION:
This experiment shows us that a combustion can create water and carbon dioxide that is
produced by ethanol and oxygen because of shaking the container bottle. Also, the ethanol
was easily burned up because it became vapor by spreading or shaking it well and to have a
thinner layer.
