Solved Questions
Question 1: A chord of length 10 cm subtends an angle of 90 degrees
at the centre of a circle. The length, in cm, of a chord that subtends an
angle of 120 degrees at the centre of circle is approximately:

Answer: Here using trigonometric ratios we can obtain from the first
equation that r = 5sqrt(2)

Now in the second circle we have sin(60) = (½ * Chord)/r

Hence we have (3/2 *5sqrt(2) )2 = Chord

Lenght of chord = 5sqrt(6)

Question 2: ABCD is a square with each side measuring 4 cm. P is a

point on CD such that length of AP is 5/2 times the length of each side of
the square. Find area of trapezium ABCP.

Answer:

Here we get the length of AP = 2sqrt(5)

Now to find the length of PC:

We have DP = sqrt(2sqrt(5)2 – 42)

DP = 2 cm

Hence we have length of trap. ABCP = ½ * (2+4) * 4

= 12 cm 2

Question 3: Which of the following is closest to the ratio of the area of

the in circle to the circumference of a regular Octagon? (Take Cos 22.5=
0.9239)

Answer: The answer is 6/7

Question 4: A triangle ABC is right angled at point B. Length of AB is 35

cm and AC is 37 cm. Find the radius of the circle for which both BC and
AC are tangents and AB passes through the center of the circle.

Answer: This can be used by using the property of similar triangles.

We know that point B will lie on the circle.

Hence we will have

r/12 = 35 - r/37 (Where r is the radius of the circle)

Hence we will have r = 60/7

Question 5: In triangle ABC, I(AB) : I(AC) = 2:1. E is a point situated on

the extended portion of BC. BA is extended upto D. m(CAE) = m(DAE).
Coordinates of point B are (1,1) that of C are (4, 5). Find the cooridnates
of point E.

Answer:

Here we know that angle CAE = angle DAE.

Hence we can use the internal angle bisector theorem and thus we have

AB/AC = BE/CE

We have x+½ = 4, x = 7

And y = 9

Hence the coordinates are (7, 9)
