Culture and its heritage reflect and shape values, beliefs, and aspirations, thereby defining a people's
national identity. It is important to preserve our cultural heritage, because it keeps our integrity as a
people. In this lesson, you will learn a lot of laws that will preserve and protect the Filipino culture.

1) Activity 2: Content Notes (10 mins)
Below is the list of the cultural laws preserving and protecting Filipino culture.
ITEMS TITLE
1. Law on Arts and Culture 1987 CONSTITUTION OF THE PHILIPPINES (Article XIV)
Section 15. Arts and letters shall enjoy the patronage of the
State. The State shall conserve, promote, and popularize the
nation’s historical and cultural heritage and resources, as well
as artistic creations.
Section 16. All the country’s artistic and historic wealth constitutes the cultural treasure of the nation and shall
be under the protection of the State which may regulate its disposition.
Section 17. The State shall recognize, respect, and protect the rights of indigenous cultural communities to
preserve and develop their cultures, traditions, and institutions. It shall consider these rights in the formulation
of national plans and policies.
Section 18. (1) The State shall ensure equal access to cultural opportunities through the educational system,
public or private cultural entities, scholarships, grants and other incentives, and community cultural centers,
and other public venues.
(2) The State shall encourage and support researches and studies on the arts and culture.

relationships and puting the needs of the group ahead of the individual. More than 80%
of the population of the Philippines is Roman Catholic.

Key to Corrections:
It is important to preserve one's culture because the culture is the representation of the lifestyle and
identity of the people in a country. Though, not all cultures of the Filipinos are desirable, still, they should be
preserved because they have been passed on from one generation to another generation and they have
become the identity of the Filipinos .
There are so many ways to preserve one's culture like holding cultural activities giving emphasis the culture.
Another way is to include them in the school curriculum to make sure that children would learn their culture.
