Title: Enzymes
Procedure:
1. Obtain a small box of matches, masking tape, a block of ice and a timer
2. Record in 10 second intervals, noting how many matches placed. Do this for a total of 60
seconds. That will be “Control”
3. After that, wrap hand with masking tape. Again, see how many matches can be placed in 60
seconds, using 10 second intervals. That will be “pH”
4. For the final part, place hand in cooler containing block of ice for one minute. See how many
matches can be placed every 10 seconds. Record for a total of 60 seconds. This will be
“temperature”
5. Record number of matches placed in each and place in table
6. Make a graph where seconds will be x axis and control/pH/temperature will be y axis
Results: The “control” has the greatest number of matches laid. The “pH” should have less than the
control. The “temperature” should have the least
Trends: When temperature and pH decrease, the enzyme activity will decrease as a result.
