What the Bible is for Me

The Bible is very complex because of its many hidden meanings throughout the text, and
it requires great knowledge to understand such complexity; however, there are people who have
devoted their lives to reading and understanding its hidden messages. To my knowledge, the Bible
is a compilation of religious/holy scriptures from the Christian religion and historians/writers (like
John, Matthew, and Mark) that depict the before, during, and after the arrival of Jesus Christ – our
Lord and Savior. Moreover, the Bible has many versions because of the different denominations
in Christianity (Roman Catholicism, Iglesia Filipina Independiente, Lutheran, etc.). Some versions
(the ones that I have read or heard about) are the New International Version, New American
Standard Bible, and King James Version. The said versions have different authors/writers, but they
have some similarities such as the recognition of the Holy Trinity – God the Father, the Holy Spirit,
and Jesus Christ the Son. Furthermore, those versions may contain native translations such as
Bisaya or Tagalog versions which help those people who cannot read English text. Asides from
the technical side of my understanding of the Bible, I understand that it is a guide for us, Christians,
in our daily activities and life which teaches us lessons: simplicity and joy, solidarity with the poor,
responsible freedom, service for the common good, and stewardship of God’s creation to name a
few. With those lessons from the Bible, it allows us to be like the disciples of Christ wherein we
follow his footsteps and preach out His lessons to the poor, needy, marginalized, unrecognized,
and those lost. With that, it allows us to carry on the mission of establishing the Kingdom of
Heaven upon us. Overall, despite the Bible’s complexity in depicting its messages, it is a book of
holy scriptures that enlightens us to be like the disciples of Christ and carry out the good news and
the Kingdom of Heaven upon us.
