President, may I know who is absent in
our class today?

Wow, it’s very nice to hear that there are

no absent in our class. Thank you. (Students bring out 1/4 sheet f paper
B. Motivation quietly)
There you go, right now, I will give you
one minute to do this. I want you to bring
out 1/4 sheet of paper for the activity that Yes, Ma’am.

Okay, thank you.

C. Recall
Yesterday,we tackled the story "Hands of
the Black". Can I have volunteers to tell
me what lessons they have learned from
the story?
I learned that we should not judge but
Yes, _______. rather respect a person even when they
look very different from us.

Very good. That’s right,we need to

respect others no matter how they look
and even when they are different from us.

Any other lessons?

I have realized that the importance or
Yes,_____. purpose of a person cannot be
determined through their physical
appearance but rather with the actions
that they do.

That’s brilliant! You're right when you said

that the real value of people can be found
in their deeds/actions not with how they
look on the outside.

I can already see that you have truly

understood the story “The Hands of the
Black”. For today, we are going to
discuss another famous literature from
Africa titled, “I am an African Child” by
Eku McGred.

D. Discussion Proper
I will distribute copies of the poem and
you are tasked to read it silently for 15 Yes, Ma’am.
minutes. Also, try to take note of
important details mentioned in the poem
for later on, we will have an activity for
that. Understood?
(Distribute copy for silent reading)
Yes, Ma’am.
(After 15 minutes)

Very well, I assume you have already

digested the meaning of the poem and
the intention of the poet in writing “African
child”, am I right?
I felt like the child is not given fair

matter where we came from, we must be
proud of it.

With that, I want you to observe closely to

the words that the poet used. Isn’t it that
he used many words that are intended to
describe something?

That’s good. I asked you that because for

today, we are going to discuss adjectives.
Do you have any idea what an adjective
is?

That’s fine if you do not have ideas about

adjectives because today, you will learn
what an adjective is and its type. There
are eight types of adjectives but for
today, we will just discuss three of them
namely: articles, possessive
adjectives, and coordinate adjectives.
Let’s start.

Adjectives
- Words that are used to describe a
noun or a pronoun.
- Words that describe the quality,
quantity, and state of a noun or
pronoun.
E.g
I am an African child
Born with a skin the color of chocolate
Bright, brilliant and articulate
Strong and bold; I'm gifted
Talented enough to be the best
I am an African child

Types of Adjective
1. Articles
- There are only three articles
and they are all adjectives.
They are the articles: a, an,
and the.
Article “a” and ”an”
- Articles that are called “indefinite
articles” due to the reason that it
does not give enough clarity.
E.g
● Give me a dream, a door of
opportunity.
● I am an African child.
Article “the”
- Is a definite article for it is used for
specific nouns.
E.g
Born with a skin the color of chocolate.
2. Possessive Adjectives
- Words that are used to
indicate possession.
- Words classified to show
possession are: My, Your,
His, Her, Its, Our, and
Their. (Also function as
possessive pronouns).
E.g
● My future is not confined to
charity.

3. Coordinate Adjectives
- Separated with commas None, Ma’am.
and the word “and”. These
are two or more adjectives
that describe only one
noun/pronoun.

E.g
● Born with a skin the color of
chocolate
Bright, brilliant and articulate
Strong and bold; I'm gifted
● We are the new generation
Not afraid to be us
Uniquely gifted, black and
talented. Yes, Ma’am.
Okay, we will stop here for now. Do you
have any clarification or questions
regarding the lesson?
(Submit the papers forward)

Very good. Since you do not have any

questions, I want us to do the activity that
I have prepared for you.
E. Application
Today, we have read the poem of Eku
To test if you really understood the
McGred titled “I am an African Child” and
lesson, I want you to find a partner. You
discuss about adjectives and its types.
and your partner must write down
sentences that describe you. Make sure
to include in the sentences the use of
Articles, Possessive adjectives, and
Coordinate Adjectives. For example my
partner is Zelle, I can say “Zelle is my
friend from grade school.” Write your
sentences on a ¼ sheet of paper and I
will collect them after 15 minutes. Is
everything clear?
None, Ma’am.
Very good. You can now start the activity.

Time is up, submit your papers now.

F. Generalization
Okay, you did great. Now, let us have a
quick recap, what have we done today?

Yes, _____.

Good job. We read the poem “I am an

African Child” by Eku McGred and
discussed adjectives and its types.

Therefore, adjectives are words that

describe a noun or a pronoun and can
be in the form of an article, a
possessive adjective, or a coordinate
adjectives.

Are there any questions or clarifications?

Very good. Since there are no questions

from the class, I will now give you your
quiz for today.
