A. ANGLE SUBTENDED AT THE CENTRE AND AT


THE CIRCUMFERENCE
An angle at the centre of a circle is twice that of any angle at the
circumference subtended by the same arc

B. ANGLE IN A SEMICIRCLE
An angle in a semicircle is always equal to 900

Angles in opposite segments are supplementary, i.e. they add up to 1800 .

Solution

Obt AOC = 3600 – 2280
= 1320
ABC + AOC = 1800
ABC = 1800 – AOC
= 1800 – 1320
= 480
In the figure, A, B,C and D are points on the circumference of a circle. PAB, QCB, PDC and QDA are
straight lines.
Given that BPC =310, AQB = 210, and PBQ =x0, find
i) BAD in term of x
ii) BCD in terms of x
iii) the value of x Solution
iv)PAD PAD = 1800 – BAD
BAD = 1800 – 210 – x
= 1590 – x = 1800 – (1590 – x )
BCD = 1800 – 310 – x = 1800 – (1590 – 640 )
= 1490 – x = 1800 – 950
BAD + BCD = 1800 = 850
1590 – x + 1490 – x = 1800
3080 – 2x = 1800
3080 –1800 = 2x
