discovery, conquest, and conversion of the Filipinas Islands - as well as various fortunes that they have
from time to time in the great kingdoms and among the pagan peoples surrounding the islands.

The meaning of las islas filipinas is the The Las islas filipinas are also known as Philipine Islands or Philip's
Islands. Ruy Lopez de Villalobos gave the names Samar and Leyte in 1543 in honor of the Prince of
Asturias, who was at the time Philip II of Spain.

higher education so they could stand on their own, and he urged them to secede from colonial rule. The
ultimate objective of Rizal was to educate the Filipinos so they could manage their own government.
Rizal's nationalistic indoctrination so emboldened Bonifacio, giving him the bravery & strength to launch
the revolution against the Spanish colonist.
