2. Introduction

2.1 ESD safety

There are many parts of the XTM Series system that are sensitive to ESD. The following
instructions should be followed when handling ESD sensitive parts.
• Carefully follow the instructions for handling the electronic parts such as slide-in units
• Wear an approved ESD wrist strap connected to the chassis ground when working with
electronic parts
• Use ESD protection equipment such as shielded bags when transporting or working with
electronic parts

2.2 Eye Safety

The laser radiation from the XTM Series system is invisible. Always use a power meter to check
the output power from a fiber connector or port in the system.

Do not use any magnifying equipment to examine a fiber or optical connector. Use of optical
equipment will increase the hazard level. Authorized personnel can use approved fiber inspection
microscopes, when inspecting connectors, after it has been determined that no optical power is
present at the connector.

When the system is in use the output from any connector or fiber that is exposed by accident in
the system will have a hazard level of class 1M according to IEC 60825-1 and IEC 60825-2.
Always observe local regulations and working practices.

2.3 Test Equipment

List of test equipment including Make/Model no., validity of calibration date and Calibration
certificates shall be enclosed with the SAT reports.

2.4 General Setup

The equipment shall be installed as per actual configuration in accordance with the approved
drawings and then be tested.
