Based on the videos, we can see the differences between English and non-English
students. When we interview English students and use English, the interviewer is not so
nervous because they already know that the interviewee has understood. While for non-
English students, the interviewer was also very nervous because there was a fear that the
interviewees did not understand the language.
Looking at the interviewees, Ms. Fitri, student from Indonesian Language Department,
looks pretty fluent in English even though her grammar is very messy. But that is also
understandable because she only learned English formally from a teacher instead of being
told to use it directly in his daily activities. She also does not look nervous when answering
questions from us. From her environment, she is also not a person who is surrounded by an
environment that uses English. But, she said that English is a very useful and important thing
to learn too.
Our second interviewee, Mr. Heri, student from Japanese Language Department, looks
a little bit nervous when we ask the question. He answer the questions carefully because he
said that he is afraid of making mistakes when answering the questions in English. that makes
the interviewer nervous because there was a fear that the interviewee did not understand the
language.
Next interviewee, Mr. Eleazar, student from English Language Department, He is
fluent in English due to he is an English education student and he has also studied English
for approximately 14 years. He answer the questions perfectly and he did not look nervous.
The last interviewee, Mr. Ilham, student from English Language Department, He
Looks little bit nervous while answering the questions. He answer the questions carefully
and with a simple answer this is because He only learns English while in class with lecturers.
The longer student learn english language, the more confidence they will be.
