3. LESSON PROPER Blending sounds as to read and recognize a

word is the most important pace of
learning. When you read, you have to
break a word up into sounds to speak it. As
you begin to read, you sooner prepare
yourself for spelling too. When you spell,
you put letters together to build words. As
a process, you spend time breaking up the
blends and putting them back together.

Let us name the pictures below

“frog, flag, clap”

“drum, blue, glad”

“hand, tent, lamp”

“salt, corn, child”

Very Good!

Consonant blends are consonant letter

clusters. A consonant blend is made up of
2 or 3 consonants blended together in
sound while retaining the sound of
individual letters.

Let us read the words on the slide “class, black, spray, fast, band”

Class, black, spray, fast, band

Initial consonant blend is a cluster of

consonant sounds at the beginning of the
word.

Ex.

Play, draw, plan, pray, clay, clam, swim,

glad, trap, trip

Final consonant blend is a cluster of

consonant sounds at the end of the word.

Ex:

Pink, park, sand, bird, raft, sink, bend,

tank, mark, past
