II-ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic has created the largest destruction of education system in human history
affecting billions of learners all over the world. Closure of schools, institutions and other
learning spaces have impacted more than 94% of the world’s student population. This has
brought far-reaching changes in all aspect of our lives. Within a short span of the COVID-19
pandemic, many researchers have shared their works on teaching and learning in different ways.
The need of the hour is to innovate and implement alternative educational system and assessment
strategies. The COVID-19 pandemic has provided us with an opportunity to pave the way for
introducing digital learning or modular classes. Therefore, this research has made to identify the
hindering factors affecting teachers, parents and learners in delivering modular modality, its
impact on the learning of the learners, and the proposed innovations, interventions, strategies to
be implemented to solve the existing problem in 1 teacher and 7 learners in Bacawan Elementary
School difficulty in solving multiplication.

III-ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The researchers would like to thanks and extend a deepest gratitude to the following persons who
give support to us in making this research possible.
To our Principal –in-Charge of the District Doctor JOMAR T. ANIG , and to our brilliant
Research Advisers Madame JEANMARIE Q. ANIG , Doctor MOHAMMAD D. RINDO and
Madame ALMA S. ERMAC, who encourage us and guide us every time we need their help.
To the Learners who submit themselves and cooperates to make this study possible.
To the Parents of 7 respondents who heartedly spending time to support and assist their children.
To our families and friends giving their support to us if we need them and most of all to our
Almighty God who enlightened our minds and give us wisdom.

IV-CONTEXT AND RATIONALE

Mathematics, the science of structure, order and relation that has evolved from counting,
measuring and describing the shapes of objects. It is used in real life and is an essential life factor
that everyone must know. It is most particularly learned in school, where teachers guide them to
do so. Students have learned different topics over the past years and multiplication is of them.
Multiplication is the process of combining matrices, vectors, or other quantities under specific

rules to obtain their products Although it is an easy process, pupils still struggle how to do it
despite of constant practice and explanation.
There are many factors affecting the growth and learning development of the pupils such as bad
environment, lack of support, difficulty in analyzing and others. Researchers observed that
during the checking of the first set of modules, majority of the students failed in the area of
multiplication. The aim of this research is to; 1) help the grade 6 student of Bacawan Elementary
School overcome the difficulty in learning multiplication, 2) finding innovative ways to help
them understand multiplication easier, 3) identify what are the other factors that affect the
learning of the learners, and 4) imply the techniques discovered to the future batch of Grade 6
pupils.

V-INNOVATION,INTERVENTION & STRATEGY

Based on the above-mentioned gathered facts and data, the proposed innovation and strategy that
the researchers develop to be implemented as a tool to improve the multiplying ability of the 7
grade 6 pupils in Bacawan Elementary School, Bacawan Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur is the
TeaRents Relay Method. This designed is to equip young pupils with the essential learning tools
to improve their learning ability in solving multiplication numbers. The parents should be
encouraged to supervise and follow up their children at home. Teachers should make a chart
indicating the grade 6 pupils’ progress in Math.

VI-ACTION REASEARCH QUESTIONS

This study is being conducted to evaluate the status of mathematics multiplying difficulty
of the 7 Grade 6 pupils of Bacawan Elementary School which is anchored on the factors that
affect the solving multiplication difficulty which could be the basis for the TeaRents Method
Relay intervention, strategies and ways to enhance their learning ability in this new normal.
Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions.

1.What are the problems encountered by the grade 6 pupils in solving multiplication?
2.What are the possible solutions to enhance their skills in multiplying?
3. How these interventions helped the respondents in overcoming their multiplying difficulty?

VII-ACTION RESEARCH METHODS

SDRC-ACTION RESEARCH

a..Participants and or other Sources of Data and Information

This study includes all of the 7 Grade 6 learners from Bacawan Elementary School, Bacawan
Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur.

b. Data Gathering Methods

 Collect the scores of the learners’ modules ( assessment part only 20, items) and check
what area of multiplication they are having difficulty in.
 Identify the learners that have low scores.
 Identify the learners having a high scores.
 Identify the learners who haven’t answered at all.
 We kept in contact with the parents participants one by one through phone calls to track
them once in a while.

c. Thematic Data Analysis Plan

In this study, the researchers practiced Thematic data Analysis in analyzing the result of
TeaReants Re;ay Method.
The mean of the scores was 16.57
There were 0 learners who failed
There were 7 learners who passed having the scores of 17, 16,18 ,16, 16, 17 and 16.

VIII-DISCUSSION of RESULTS and REFLECTION

Thematic Data Analysis

No. Codes
1. The mean of scores was 16.57
2. There were 0 learners who failed.
3. There were 7 learners who passed having the scores of
17, 16, 18, 16, 16, 17 and 16.

There are different factors that hinders the multiplying ability of the pupils. It may vary from one
pupil to the other since each pupil differ in situations of life, status of living and the community
that they are into. The following factors revealed difficulty in determining where to put the
decimal point and in multiplying fractions and mix numbers in finding the LCD ( Least Common
Denominator and GCF ( Greatest Common Factor) which are used in multiplying of
fractions. These 7 respondents, 90% of the pupils says that their parents don’t have enough time

SDRC-ACTION RESEARCH

and lack of knowledge to teach them especially about mathematics. The main reasons were the
parents or guardians are focus on survival need.
2. What is the implication of using various relay methods to address the grade 6 pupils’ difficulty
in solving multiplication? The TeaRents ( Teacher Parents)method was effective since there
was an improvement in the learners’ performance. Unfortunately, some of the parents couldn’t
be reached on the phone, so teacher and parents had a face-to-face session by following the
health protocols. The parents of the learners discussed that the factors affecting them is lack of
time, since they are also striving to live through the pandemic. They are only one who can teach
their children and they sometimes couldn’t because of that particular reason. Also unhealthy
habbits are one of the reason why the child couldn’t focus on learning. Some of the learners
wasn’t used to studying every night so they seemed to be uninterested most of the time their
parents tried to teach them.

IX- Research Reflection and Conclusions:

After a thorough evaluation of all the data gathered and subsequent analysis, the researchers
come up with the following reflections and conclusions to wit: the prime factors that affect the
ability of learners, pupils’ attitudes and interests towards multiplying mathematics. If a learner
doesn’t know how to count and multiple, its difficult for her/him to solve a multiplication to
make their lost of interest in multiplying mathematics. The second factor is the
parents/guardians’ inability to follow up their children because most of them focused on survival
needs and they leave their small children under the care of their older siblings. Otherwise more
parents are also luck of knowledge to teach their children. The third factor is the result of using
technologies or gadgets in inappropriate way. They are too much exposed in playing online
games to divert their boredom instead of studying their lessons. Therefore, the various relay
method could help the learners to address their difficulty in solving mathematics multiplication
factors faced by pupils.

X- Recommendations:

Recommend to the teachers to make action plan on how to elevate learners’ attitudes and
interests in multiplying and top the concerned parents of the childrens’ having difficulty in
multiplying to give time to follow up them. Recommend also teachers to find ways in getting
budget for the provision of snacks to the pupils who have difficulties in multiplying mathematics
equation during the conduct of intervention.
