Observation: Justin notice that his mother usually makes bread on hot days.

When he asked his mom why she does this she said that the bread dough will rise
faster this way as opposed to on a warm day.
Hypothesis: Bread dough will rise faster on a hot day than a warm day.
Aim: to determine if bread dough will rise faster on a hot day as opposed to a
warm day.
Apparatus and Materials: Warm water, Active Dry yeast, Granulated sugar or
honey, Salt, Oil, Flour, large bowl, cup, dish towel
Method: 1. Get all materials needed ready on the hot and warm day
2. Proof the yeast: In a large bowl add the yeast, water and a pinch of the sugar or
honey. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes until foaming and bubbly.
3. Prepare the dough: Add remaining sugar or honey, salt, oil, and 3 cups of flour.
Mix to combine. Add another cup of flour and mix to combine. With the mixer
running add more flour, ½ cup at a time, until the dough begins to pull away from
the sides of the bowl.
4. Knead the dough: Mix the dough for 5 minutes on medium speed (or knead
with your hands on a lightly floured surface, for 5-8 minutes). The dough should
be smooth and elastic, and slightly stick to a clean finger, but not be overly sticky.
5. Rise: Grease a large bowl with oil or cooking spray and place the dough inside.
Cover with a dish towel or plastic wrap and allow to rise until doubled in size.
6. Wait and see the results of the dough rising for both days.
7. compare both doughs and measure how long it took for them to rise and the
size of them.
Variables:
1. Manipulated: Hot day vs Warm day
2. Responding: how fast the bread dough raised
3. Controlled: the mixture of the bread dough
Data capture: table showing observations obtained from the rising of the
bread dough on both the hot and warm day

on a hot day on a warm day

raised

Precautions: Ensure that the bread doughs where made on a hot day and a warm
day
Source of error: the use of different amounts of the ingredients to make the two
doughs
Expected Results: The bread dough raised faster on a hot day than on a warm day
