NARRATIVE REPORT ON READING MONTH CELEBRATION 2022

The world is now facing some challenges brought by modernization. The existence of
gadgets, internets and social media have great impact to every individual especially the young
generations who engaged most of their time in browsing, playing online games and even
tiktoks. Learners tend to forget the value of reading in their lives and even the appreciation of
the beauty of reading.

The Reading Month Celebration with its theme “Antas Ng Kaalaman Ay Pagyamanin,
Ang Pagbasa Ay Linangin,” aims to promote love for reading among learners and provide the
teachers, parents and stakeholders full awareness and understanding on the role of reading and
literacy in cultivating critical thinking among learners.

The Tinitian National High School teaching staff headed by their School Head
Mr. Gidion M. Galumo, Head Teacher V, joined by their learners from Grade 7-10 actively
participated and supported the Reading Month Celebration in line with the Division
Memorandum No. 451, series 2022.

It started with a Book Character Parade joined by teachers and learners. The second
part was the opening program. A warm welcome address from Erl C. Aga, English Club Vice
President set the mood of the celebration followed by an inspirational talk from the supportive
Head Teacher V, Mr. Gidion M. Galumo. He gave an emphasis with the importance of reading
and also connected the theme to a story of an Indian Boy’s realization about life. It was a
meaningful story that everyone would relate and its lesson in life at the end. Then, there was a
mystery reader who shared a fascinating story of Tungkong Langit and Alunsina. The learners
enjoyed listening to the story. The third part of the program was the contest proper started with
the Book Character Parade, a ramp showing their chosen costumes and delivering some famous
lines of their favorite characters. There were fourteen (14) learners received sash and certificate
for best in costume awards. It was followed by the vocal solo competition where a contestant
from Grade 9 declared as winner. Next was the extemporaneous speech, every contestant
delivered their speech according to their topics. A contestant from Grade 10 got the first place.
Lastly, the spelling bee joined by fourteen (14) contestants battled with their spelling skills and
at last a Grade 10 learner was declared as winner.

All participants received a certificate for their attendance and participation. It was
awarded by Mr. Gidion M. Galumo, Head Teacher V and assisted by the English teachers.
The Reading Month Celebration ended successfully in God’s grace.
