What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you
master dividing decimals by the powers of 10. The scope of this module permits it to
be used in many different learning situations. The language used recognizes the
diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to follow the standard
sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can be changed to
correspond with the textbook you are now using.

The module is about:

Lesson 9.2- Solving Routine and Non-routine Problems Involving Division of

Solving Routine and Non-routine
Lesson Problems Involving Division of
Decimals, Mixed Decimals, and
2 Whole Numbers Including Money
Using the Appropriate Problem-
Solving Strategies and Tools

Things learned are effective if they are being applied to our everyday life,
and how we use them in our daily routine. For today, we will apply all the skills
you learned in dividing decimals in solving problems. But, let us test your skills
first in dividing decimals. Do the activity below.

What’s In

Are you ready? Let’s try this!

Give the quotient of the following:
1. 756 ÷ 0.9 =__________
2. 28.7 ÷ 7 =__________
3. 1.38 ÷ 6 =__________
4. 10.14 ÷ 2.6 =__________
5. 62.5 ÷ 2.5 =__________

Notes to the Teacher

The teacher must consider the prerequisite knowledge needed for
this lesson. This module will help the learner understand the
concept in a developmental manner.

What’s New

Does your father work? Do you know how much he earn? In this problem, we
will find out how much Kardo earns.
Let us read and analyze the problem.
Since you already mastered the skill in dividing decimals, let us apply it
to problem solving.

Kardo worked 8.5 hours in a factory and earned ₱ 1 066.75. How much
was his hourly rate?

Have you read and analyze the problem?

Here are your guide questions to help you solve the problem:
1. What is the problem all about?

2. What are the given facts?

3. What operation is to be used?

4. How will you solve the problem?

6
What is It

Have you answered the questions? Let’s find out if your answers are
correct.
Here are the questions with their answers.
1. What is the problem all about?
 the hourly rate of Kardo

2. What are the given facts?

 ₱ 1 066.75 and 8.5 hours

3. What operation is to be used?

 Division

4. How will you solve the problem?

 1 066.75 ÷ 8.5 = N

Are your answers correct?

Very good. Let’s try to answer the problem.

Let us solve. 125.5 = 125.50 So, the answer is ₱ 125.50.

In solving a word problem, follow these steps.
This is what we call the 4-step plan.
Read carefully.
1. Understand: What is asked?
What are given?
2. Plan: Choose the operation.
Write the number sentence
3. Carry out the plan: Solve the problem.
4. Look back: Find out if the answer is reasonable.

Another example:
1. Vico owns 3 hectares of land. He wants to divide it equally among his
children. If each son gets 0.5 hectare, how many children does he have?
1. a. What is asked? number of sons Vico has

b. What are given? 3 hectares of land

0.5 hectares each son will receive

2. a. What operation is to be used? Division

b. What is the number sentence? 3 ÷ 0.5 = N

3. Solve: 3 ÷ 0.5 = 6

4. Look back: One way of checking is by multiplying 6 x 0.5

Did you understand the steps? I prepared different activities to test your
skill. Make sure to follow the directions. Good luck.
