“Competence” is the combination of education (practical and theoretical
knowledge) and experience (cognitive skills, behavior, and values used to improve
work performance), which means having the ability to perform specific tasks
adequately.
Education mentioned above is not only initial knowledge but also includes
specialized knowledge applied to particular industries and ongoing learning to help
auditors stay relevant to the latest change in their careers.
❖ Definition of “Due care” or “Diligence”
“Diligence” is constant and earnest effort to accomplish tasks carefully with the
applicable technical and ethical standards.
❖ The relationship between “Competence” and “Diligence”
Competence shows the person’s capacity to deal with matters with the
appropriate knowledge and skills.
Diligence is the exercise of competence in a careful manner in the
circumstances.
