Table of Contents
Chapter Number Chapter Name Page Number
Chapter I: Executive Summary
 What does researcher want to achieve: Statement of
the problem/ Objective of the study
 How he wants to achieve it: The time period, sample
and the methodology used
 What are the main findings of the study?
 Policy Implications
Chapter II. Introduction
In introduction chapter, a researcher introduces the project. He defines the
research problem and a brief history of that problem.
 The researcher can give the brief introduction about the company also.
Try to give the numbering to the headings of the chapter like 1 heading should
st

be given the number 1.1, 2 heading 1.2 and so on. If there is some sub heading
nd

under 1 heading, give it number 1.1.1, 1.1.2,….

st

Do not copy and paste anything. Write the introduction in your words.
If you have copied anything word to word, give it in quotes with author name in
the end of quote.
Example- ‘ During the first phase of China’s market reforms, for example, during
1978-84, the dismantling of the communes and the partial liberalization of food
production gave a great boost to major food producing regions’ (Sach et. al,
2002).
 If you have referred any article or book for writing the text (but not copied it

bracket. Reference is given as (Surname of author, Year of publication) like If
the author name is Gurinder kaur and the article was published in 2000,
reference will be given as (Kaur, 2000). If there are two authors like Gurinder
Kaur and Charu Wadhwa, reference will be (Kaur and Wadhwa, 2000). If there
are more than two authors like Gurinder Kaur, Charu Wadhwa, Priya Raman,
reference will be given as (Kaur et.al, 2000).
Chapter III: Review of Literature
 The researcher should undertake extensive literature survey connected with the
problem. For this purpose, he must go through following sources depending on
the nature of the problem.
 Journals
 Published or unpublished bibliographies
 Conference proceedings
 Government Reports
 Books etc.
 Reports of studies of closely related problems that have been investigated
 While reviewing literature, following points must be studied minutely:
 Objective of the study
 Populations what were sampled and sampling methods employed
 Various variables that were defined
 Findings
 Recommendations for further research
EXAMPLE:
INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA: A COMPARISON OF PUNJAB WITH SELECTED
INDIAN STATES

Inter-state analysis of Indian manufacturing unfolds the position of each

state’s manufacturing relative to other states. Thomas (2002) while
examining the contribution of all sampled states in total share of Indian
manufacturing through GVA stated that western states i.e.
Maharashtra and Gujarat have highest share in total GVA (33 percent)
of Indian manufacturing (of which Maharashtra alone contributes 23
percent). North-West states have 18 percent of share in total of which
Punjab has only 3 percent share. Further, measuring the productivity of
Indian manufacturing, different studies come up with different results.
Babu and Natarajan (2013) viewed that Bihar, Gujarat and Orissa
recorded highest total factor productivity growth for the period 1980-81
to 2007-08 while West Bengal and Tamil Nadu are least productive
Indian states. Trivedi et. al (2011) study also supports these results who
reported that West Bengal and Tamil Nadu are least productive states
for the years 1980-81 to 2003-04, while Maharashtra has recorded
highest total factor productivity growth.
Chapter IV: Project Objective(s)
• Defining of the research problem.
• Finding the parameters of the problem.
• Research objectives are set based on the research
problem and its parameters
• Hypothesis set up based on the parameters of the
research problems
Chapter V: Research Methodology
 Research Design:
 Data Collection: Primary and Secondary data
 Sample area : Big Bazaar , Bhagalpur
 Research technique : Descriptive Research

 Sample Design:
 Sample Unit: Sample units consists of the customers in the age group of 18 -50
 Sample Size: 200 customers
 Sample Area: Big Bazaar, Bhagalpur
 Sample Technique: Simple Random Sampling

In case you have used any secondary data, you are required to mention the
source for the same here.

 Methodology Used:
Which methodology is applied for analysis part.
Chapter VI: Data Analysis and Interpretation
This chapter is the main chapter of your report. It will reflect your
research contribution in your area of research.
Don’t start the chapter with the table or chart. First write in a paragraph
what you are about to do in this chapter or the objective of the chapter.
If you are making any sections and sub sections of the chapter,
mention it in the beginning of the chapter.
Here you will analyze the collected data with the help of different
statistical techniques. Some of the simplest ones are pie charts, tables,
by calculating percentages, growth rates, ratios, correlation etc.
 Give number to each chart and table as Table number 4.1, 4.2, …..for
tables and chart number 4.1, 4.2,….for charts.
 After each chart and table, give a detailed explanation of each of them.
 At the end of chapter, give the conclusion of the chapter in a
paragraph
How to do the analysis????....
 Pie- Chart
 Table
 Percentages
 Growth Rate
 Correlation
 Average
 Coefficient of Variation
 Standard Deviation
 Regression
 Tests of Significance
Chapter VII: Findings and
Recommendations
 In this chapter, give the findings of your research work. How
you have met your objectives by analyzing the collected
data is shown in the findings.
 Make sure that your findings should come out of analysis
only.
 Based on the findings, researcher is required to give the
suggestions in this chapter.
 Make sure that your recommendations should come out of
your findings
Chapter VIII: Conclusion
What is the overall conclusion that can be drawn from
the entire research work?

It must be:-
Specific
Precise
Clear
Comprehensive
Contexual

Important Do’s and Don’ts
 Very Important: Make sure that the title of the topic is
linked with your objectives. Your analysis and findings
reflects what you aim to do at the beginning of your
project. Most importantly, your recommendations should
be based on your findings.
 THIS MEANS YOUR OBJECTIVES, FINDINGS,
RECOMMENDATIONS ALL SHOULD FALL IN LINE.
 Mention source at the end of every table from where
you have taken it.
 Number every table and chats/ figure/ graph separately
(for example Charts can be numbered as C1, C2 etc.;
Graphs as G1, G2 etc. and Figures can be represented
as F1, F2 etc.).
Table Number of Chapter 1 should be 1.1, 1.2, 1.3,….
Table Number of Chapter 2 should be 2.1, 2.2, 2.3,…
