Structured Essay
a) A and B are the elements of same period. When A and B are heated with O2 individually they
gave C, D. C reacted with water and gave the solution E. Even if D does not dissolve in water
it dissolves in the solution E and forms a colourless solution F. When dil.HCl is added drop
wisely to F a white colour precipitate G is obtained which dissolves in passage of excess HCl.
When A and B are heated with N2 separately B only reacts and gave a nitride H. When water
is added to H gas I is formed

LiNO3 , MgCO3 (not mentioned in order). When these solids are heated the details of the
products formed is stated below
Solid Details
A Gas evolved change the colour of red litmus as blue. Dibasic acid is produced
B Gas evolved change the colour of blue litmus as red. A white precipitate is
formed which forms a strong base when dissolved in water
C Gas evolved is brown in colour. A white precipitate is formed which forms a
strong base when dissolved in water
D The gas evolved shows more chemically inert property. Steam is also
produced

ii. Write the balanced ionic chemical equation for the reaction between C2O42-, MnO4-
ions
b. Again 29.2 g of hydrated calcium oxalate (CaC2O4.H2O) is deposited. All the gases were
removed and allowed to attain equilibrium at 1200K. The pressure of system at that
condition was found to be 4.2x106 Pa. the valve A is opened and the gases inside is
allowed to flow outside. Then the system is brought to room temperature rapidly and all
the contents are dissolved in dil.H2SO4. The solution was made as 500cm3 and then a
25cm3 sample is titrated by using 0.1moldm-3 KMnO4. The volume of KMnO4 needed
was 15cm3.
