Preserving our earth and environment has become an important
driver for today’s society. While industrial operations are
continuously working to reduce their impact, more and more
customers are making environmentally conscious purchasing
decisions when it comes to products offered. BASF’s polyisobutene
(PIB) is an essential building block and enabler in a broad and
diverse range of customer industries and their manufactured end
products.
Following the tradition of being the innovator of PIB and the clearly
spelled out aspiration that comes with the product's promise
‘made to innovate’, BASF, as the first company in the market and
by applying BASF's Biomass Balance (BMB) approach, has
successfully made this essential component available derived from
100% renewable feedstock – providing a true alternative to fossil-
based feedstock and contributing to the reduction of impact on
our precious planet.

BASF calculates the product carbon footprint based on the global warming potential for a 100-year evaluation period (GWP100) using characterization
factors from the 2013 IPCC Assessment Report (AR5) including climate carbon cycle feedback. Inventory is based on a cradle-to-gate consideration.
