A Detailed Lesson Plan in Secants
A Detailed Lesson Plan in Secants
MATHEMATICS 9
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
A. Define secants.
B. Illustrate secants to a circle (M10GE – IIe – 1).
C. Give examples on the usages and importance of secants in real life.
III. PROCEDURE
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
INITIATORY PHASE
1. Prayer
2. Checking of the cleanliness and
orderliness of the classroom
3. Checking of attendance
A. ACTIVITY
Let us play first. I know you are very much
familiar with this game “PASS THE BALL”.
You are going to form a big circle. While I
play a music, you are going to pass the ball to
the person next to you, when the music stops,
the one holding the ball will pass it to anyone
from the circle and the person to get it will
draw a paper from the box and answer the
questions I’ve prepared for you. The
questions contain of the last topic we’ve had
yesterday. Those who answered correctly will
be given an additional point on your
recitation. Take note of the directions on
where the ball goes/landed.
It was fun.
How did you find the activity?
That is correct.
In what geometric figure/term can you
compare the direction of the ball? It can be compared to a line or a segment.
Perfect!
Based from the your answers, can you now
guess what will be our topic for today? It is about lines or segments that connect two
points of a circle.
Excellent!
C. ABSTRACTION
How do you now define a secant?
SECANT – is a line that connects/intersects
circle at exactly two points. It contains the
chord of a circle.
Very good.
Secant can be a line or a segment that
intersects a circle. Can you site an example in
real life where you think secants are seen and
applied? Some bridges form an arc, those horizontal
bars are the secants and they are used so that
the bridge will be strong and won’t fall.
Precisely.
I have here a mathematical device called a
GEOBOARD; can you show or make secants
using this board?
IV. EVALUATION
In a ½ crosswise, answer the following:
1. What is a secant?
2. Write a paragraph that consists of at least three sentences that show or explain the use
and importance of secants in real life.
V. ASSIGNMENT
January 27, 2023
1. What geometric figure is formed when two secants intersect from a common point?
2. What are the theorems on angles form by tangents and secants?
1. What is a point?
In geometry, a point is a location represented by a dot. A point does not have any
length, width, shape or size, it only has a position.
2. Define a circle.
A circle is a closed two-dimensional figure in which the set of all the points in the
plane is equidistant from a given point called “centre”.
4. What is a line?
A line is a straight one-dimensional figure that does not have a thickness, and it
extends endlessly in both directions.
5. What is segment?
The part of a line that connects two points.
