1. PURPOSE

To provide guidelines in the provision of first aid treatment in the workplace which aim
is to;
1.1 Preserve life
1.2 Prevent the escalation of illness or injury
1.3 Promote recovery
1.4 Provide pain relief
1.5 Protect the unconscious

2. SCOPE

This procedure should be utilized by the Certified First Aider in the Workplace

3. RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1 Employer who will be responsible for the effective implementation of this Minimum
Standard including;
3.1.1 Provision of trainings and appropriate number of Designated First Aid Officers
and ensure that they maintain currency of certification
3.1.2 Steady supply of first aid kits and the replenishment of existing kits.

3.2 The Occupational Health Nurse is fully responsible for ensuring that the First Aid
Standards are being applied through monitoring of first aid kits, assisting in their
trainings and proving refresher lessons for Certified Firs Aiders and documentations of
first aid rendered at the work site.

3.3 Managers/Supervisors ensure these procedures are implemented within their area of
responsibility and that all workers, for whom they are responsible, are informed
regarding first aid in the workplace.

3.4 Certified First Aider means any person trained and duly certified or qualified to
administer first-aid by the Philippine National Red Cross or by any organization
accredited by the same. In the company, they are the designated employees who
undergo required training and will be responsible in providing First Aid Treatment in the
workplace

4. PROCEDURE

4.1 When a worker or other person at the workplace becomes ill or immediately after an
incident involving personal injury, first aid treatment is to be provided. The ill/injured

worker or other person is to seek assistance from a Certified First Aider in their work
area.

4.2 The responder Certified first Aider is to decide upon the appropriate care required in
accordance with their training.

4.3 If the situation requires attention by the Company Physician or Occupational Health
Nurse, the injured/sicked worker should be brought to the Emergency Treatment
Facility/ Company Clinic.

4.4 If injury or sickness was deemed to be serious or treatment in the Company Clinic not
sufficient, the Occupational Health Nurse shall request from Motor pool Dept. for the
dispatch by the Company ambulance to transport the sick/ injured patient.

4.5 In the situation where Company Physician or Occupational Health Nurse is not on
duty (during afternoon shift, night shift, weekends or holidays) and serious injury/illness
at a workplace was experienced by the worker, the certified first Aider must Contact
the Motor Pool Department for the dispatch of the Company Ambulance to be brought
in the nearest Hospital.
