Derivative - f’(x) – dy/dx
We write dx instead of "Δx heads towards 0"
Derivative Rules

Constant Rule

The slope of a constant value (like 3) is always 0

Linear Function Rule

The slope of a line like 2x is 2, or 3x is 3 etc.

Derivative Rules

Power Rule
f’(xn) = nx(n-1)
Sum / Difference Rule
Sums
1. f’(4x5) = ?
2. f’(2x-3) = ?
3. f’(-7x-5) = ?

Find the derivatives of the following functions

• y = x3 – 2x2 - 6x + 8
• y = 4x6 – x2 + 3x + √2
• y = 2x5 + 2x2 - 6x + ᴫ
Derivative Rules

Power of a function

y = [f(x)]n
