Magical winter

Winter is a magical time of the year. December, January and February are winter months.
Winter is the coldest season. The temperatures often fall below 0 C, especially at night time.
Hoarfrosts and snowstorms come. The water on ponds and lakes freezes (it is best to be on
the safe side and not to step on it). Frost paints appear on the windows and icicles hang from
the roofs. The sky begins to frown and is covered with dark clouds. The nights in winter are
very long, the days are short.

When the first snow falls, everything becomes magical like in some fairy tale. It makes us
forget about everything, breathlessly watching the snowflakes glide, waltz, float and whirl
outside. Chaste white snow lies everywhere: on the roofs of buildings, on benches, on paths
and roads. Trees proudly stand dressed in snow-white outfits. Nature sleeps hiding under a
snow blanket in anticipation of spring. Snow sparkles in the sun, glitters and shimmers in the
rays of the cold sun, and blinds eyes. Frozen ground is covered with snowdrifts.
In winter, it is often necessary to remove the snow and icicles from roofs and on the site on
a regular basis. Plus roads and streets can become very slippery, so people sprinkle salt on
them.

Wintering birds, such wonderful birds as bullfinches, crossbills, waxwings, pigeons,

sparrows and other ones winter with us, so it possible to make feeders and feed them all
winter with bread, seeds, corn.

In winter people wear warm clothes: a down winter coat, a knitted hat and gloves, warm fur
boots, a scarf and mittens. Also people winterize their cars, homes. Inspect the heating
system. The wood – burning stove has always been a reliable choice for producing house
warmth, so people chop wood, collect firewood, clean chimneys.
When it gets particularly cold or there is a snowstorm, sometimes schools are closed. It's
great to spend cold and dark winter evenings at a crackling fireplace.

Winter is a time of joy, festive mood and fun. Families with little children can have fun
building snow castles and fortresses, sculpting snowmen, sleighing, skating, skiing,
snowballing, tobogganing, playing hockey, jumping in snow. There are many ice-runs
around. Many people go to skating rinks. In some parks there are ice sculptures that are real
works of art. Main thing in such weather is to keep moving.

Winter is the magic time of greatest holidays of Christmas and New Year. This is the time
when every person turns into a little boy or girl and starts to believe in miracles. It’s
wonderful to hear Christmas songs from every corner. It also sets the atmosphere of
holidays. Children have fun with Santa Claus and Snow Maiden on children's matinees.
People cook the tastiest things, exchange presents and greetings, decorate trees, streets and
stores- illumination is everywhere. All relatives gather together around the dining table.
