1
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Information Technology has revolutionized the life of human beings' and has made the lives
easier by the various kinds of applications. In the light of the rapid changes with the use of IT,
there are many tools, technologies and systems have been produced and invented. In the modern
world, time is short so if there are many processes taken place at same time within a place there
is a need for integration of all the processes, creation of paperless environment also ensures
efficient task management.

Nowadays all the businesses are shifting to computer-based system. The purpose to having a
computer-based system is, it helps to increase the market share and it's very easy for customers
to use. It is increasing the demand among the customer. This project is concerned with
developing a Library Management System for Stefano Moshi Memorial University College. In
this system the library management becomes more efficient & easier to handle with its reliable
system components.

The goal of this project is to provide simplicity as well as security and efficiency to the
management for Stefano Moshi Memorial University College and also reduce managing
personnel in the library

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Presently, transaction of books in Stefano Moshi Memorial University College library it is done
manually, thereby taking more time for transaction like borrowing of books or return of books
and also searching of member students, staff and books. Series of problems occur as a result of
this thereby resulting to inefficient library management. In most cases as a result of human error
there maybe loss and damages of records due to not using a computerized system in the library
Nevertheless, the difficulty in the searching of books which could be termed to be inadequacy in
book Management is a problem in the manual library thereby causing inefficiency, wastage of
materials and time consuming in the library. Also, the problem of space consuming erupts after
the number of records become large the space for physical storage of file and records also
increases if no computerized system is implemented as well as the issue of cost. Due to problem
of lack of prompt information retrieval and time wastage in using the library, in addition due to
the cumbersome, in this Library Management System project computer approach will be used to
solve these problems. Each of the manual procedure will be well analyzed and stored.

2
JUSTIFICATION OF STUDY
The results from our feasibility study shows that the use of Library Management System will be
of more benefits compare to the other known Library Management System like KOHA since,
such management system like KOHA requires online operations, needs the librarian to be much
familiar with it and this is cost fully in providing training. Also, the major setback of this Library
Management System is that it is a web based and as a result it is not security conscious because
hackers could have the database hacked and access or modify the information of such user. But
the use of Library Management System will be friendlier usable by the librarian and this system
will only be able to provide its members with the available books and lastly, this Library
Management System is well secured.

METHODOLOGY
 INTERVIEW

Unstructured interview will be used. This is purposeful conversation between the interviewer and
the interviewee. This will help us to acquire information from respondents. This will be useful
for obtaining ideas, opinions and user’s feelings about library management system also

 QUESTIONAIRE

This study uses both open and close ended questionnaires for data collection. Total number of 20
questionnaires will be administered. The use of open-ended questionnaire will allow respondent
to be free in giving out their views about the subject matter. This will enable to gather the
requirement of the system that is being developed.
